View Full Version : ANYCUT Tips - Direct turn off/on GPS?
I was digging a little deeper into the AnyCut App tonight- and was reading in the comments that someone created a shortcut to one-tap turn on/off the GPS and it can also be done with WiFi, etc..
Do you need to use the "Create Your Own" section to do that?
There's no documentation on this thing! I have no idea what to type into those fields :)
Anybody know how to use that part?
I want to put an icon on my home screen that when tapped turns on the GPS directly.

It's weird, and you wouldn't believe it until you tried it, but add a shortcut on your desktop for the "Unlock Pattern". Trust me. Just do it. Once you do it, you will see the GPS there.
In fact, once you do and see that it works, you may want to rename it on your desktop so it makes more sense to you.
I don't get it either.....

MrGibbage is right about the GPS shortcut.
As for the "make your own" thing, I've done a lot of searching, and no one seems to know how to use this. I think it was for the developers to test shortcuts. It sure would be nice if someone could figure it out.

I've tried to put a bunch of random things in those boxes that have not worked for anything. I have no idea how the create your own shortcut is supposed to work yet.

Its because that shortcut takes you to the unlock pattern option menu. Which is also the gps sat on and off menu.

I'd really like to know how the make your own option works too I emailed the devs but haven't got a response yet.
I'd like to see an future version of AnyCut allow you to directly affect the function you are trying to change- witout just taking you to the menu above it.
just be able to make a direct on/off button on the home screen- maybe even a dynamic graphic like the Wifi green checkmark- this would help alot with battery control

I wanted to create a shortcut to a website I frequent all the time, but have yet to figure that out either.

Susan, you can do that. Hold a blank spot on the screen, when the menu pops up you should see 4 options, Application/Shortcut/Widget/Wallpaper. If you click "shortcut" you should get several sub-options. The second or third suboption should be "bookmark". If you've bookmarked the page, then you should be able to drop that bookmark to the desktop. If not, then you need to bookmark the page and go through that all again.

Even better solution:
Go to Market and download application "aSettings" -- one of the most useful applications out there in my daily usage. Download it and use AnyCut to put a shortcut for it on your home screen.
When you open aSettings, you will find on one page you can toggle click on and off:
Brightness
GPS
Bluetooth
Wi-Fi
Airplane Mode
Ring Mode (normal, silent, vibrate)

aSettings is AWESOME. Friggin' awesome. It's a must download for all G1 users if you ask me.
