Usually I just stalk these forums but after reading people's complaints and sharing the same issues I figured I should share my experience. I bought my g1 thursday from a local store in ny. At first the battery life sucked. Even with 3 and wifi off I was only getting a few hours of usage before the battery was drained. Then the slider starting to act funny and was no longer flush against the phone when closed. Then I noticed a dead pixel. I was so frustrated I returned the phone tonight and exchanged it. What I got was impressive. I truly believe there are a lot of bad builds out there. The new phone feels sturdy, actually is lighter, the battery has lasted twice as long with 3g on and the slider is 1000 times sturider.

So I seriously recommend to people with any of those issues that they exchange their phones in ll get, but I can tell you firsthand that my 2nd g1 is a million times better than the first. That's my two cents.

you may have a point.. preorders could have some bad pnes in the bunch. but the manufactures warranty on all htc devices is 1yr thru tmobile so if people call tmo cs enough they get frustrated ansd just start sending out new units.. for some reason i feel like the white g1s will have no issues.

I totally by agree, by next year when the white model comes I would think the quality issues will have improved. Until then the more people speak up and exchange their phones the more likely we'll get a better product.

Mobile phone battery is probably its most important element. It keeps your running for hours and days so its important that you should be aware of some tricks which can enhance the performance of your cell phone battery. Hence, here we’ve the list of Do’s and Don’ts which can extend life time of your cell phone battery.
List of Do’s:

• As new Li-ion batteries need an initial “conditioning” so for the first 3 charge cycles, fully charge the battery overnight and allow it to fully discharge before recharging.
• Follow manufacturers’ instructions strictly.
• Never expose the battery to extreme hot or cold weather.
• Remember to charge and re-condition battery if it hasn’t been in use for long.
• Make sure that your battery remains in use most of the time. Avoid letting your battery in in-active state for long.
• Avoid using the features and applications of your cell phone which you don’t really need.
List of Don’ts:

• Never open and expose the content of battery cell.
• Don’t let the battery to over-charge ( it is lethal for battery if you keep it on charger for more than 24 hours)
• Don’t abuse the battery by tossing or dropping.
• Don’t expose the battery to water.
• Don’t burn a battery after its life is over. Follow proper disposing-off instructions.

I'll probably jinx myself by saying it, but my phone is fine and it is much sturdier than my old Curve was. The battery has been OK(not great)...better than I thought it would be after hearing the horror stories. I've also heard stories that some batteries are getting better with time, so maybe I just got one of the good ones.

well thanks for the advice. I really don't want to return and go through another one, but this battery life is ridiculously bad. I can't even get 12hrs after conditioning for 3 days. (make it die, charge for 10-12hrs) It is sadly worst than my Sidekick 3 and slide which says a lot since the sidekick wasn't the best when it came to battery life. The sad part is I barely use the phone, 2 short phone calls and maybe 10 texts and dying under 12hrs is really unacceptable especially since I'm always on the go to different places
