which phone?

I'm a complete noob , and I'm looking for a phone to test the apps on. Sadly I'm stuck on AT&T network, so the Nexus S just won't work(no 3g). I've had my eye on the Motorola atrix, but I read on a review that you can not load custom apps on your phone. Is that true? I will gladly take any suggestions on which phone to get. I know that they won't let you root the device, but I don't think I will get that far along before it's time for a new phone.

Which platform applications you are developing and you are going to test as well? Can you look for all the options available with AT&T? If they are not upto your liking, I would recommend to change your carrier and believe me, it's never good to stick to a carrier.

Don't feel bad. I too am a COMPLETE noob to the android. I just got the Inspire on Sunday, and I have fallen in love. I just converted from iPhone 3g which i had jailbroken, and even then I couldnt do what i can with it that i can with this new phone. I too was really wanting to get the Atrix- and the only reason i didnt wait was because remember the iPhone 4 was so highly anticipated and ended up so many people were having issues with the phone right after release. I didnt want to get this new Moto and have problems with it, being a new phone. Im not bashing moto, i loved my moto's, but I know so many people with an android phone and they all say good things. My vote, personally, go with the Inspire, its SO nice, and see how the new moto ends up, by the time you can upgrade again they may have a better version of the atrix.
