I sure its coming to sprint a few months later after T-mobile release. As far as ATT and Verizon, they are still skeptical about it due to the fact that it is open source. Which means they wont have much control over what service they can put on there. Sprint and Tmobile are doing it because they are small carrier and would do anything to change that.

Why NOT Tmo? They are one of the smaller carriers, they need a shot like this to increase sales. AT&T has the iPhone, and doubtful this will knock the iPhone off the top of the mountain, Verizon wants too much handset control. It is good for Tmo. I expect Sprint to have it soon.

i think of t-mobile as one of the big companies here in Houston Tx.
and plus i think t-mobile is the perfect choice for this device, since most of my t-mobile fones were nokias, and nokias are really easy to customize from different websites. so now this device here will really be fun for me, cus i can really customize t to how ever i like.

I'm glad it came to t-mobile...
I've only been with T-mobile for about a year and some-odd months... after getting off my parents plan with Verizon. I hated how restrictive Verizon was... AT&T was a bit too expensive for me at the time. So I got onto T-mobile... after seeing some nicer, cooler phones come out from Verizon... then, the iPhone for AT&T i started kicking myself.. but then i got engaged, and added my fiance to my plan it it was pretty cheap for 2 lines. we don't talk outside of T-mobile so we don't even scratch the surface with the 700 anytime minutes.
When i hear abou the Dream/G1 I started getting excited, and pre-ordered one right away!
I can't wait!
I hope Houston expands the 3G network a little more.. seems like my town is in the 3G network in some parts...

I've been with them since before they were TMobile! LOL I was with Voicestream and then they were bought by TMobile. They alwasy had the best service for me and you couldn't beat their prices!! I was almost ready to switch though, I was getting tired of never having any of the "Cool" phones! LOL Glad I stayed now!!

Me, too! I've been with T-Mobile for over 6 years. I travel all over the world and it's been great everywhere but Japan. First phone was SonyEricsson T300, an ugly brick that worked well. Then the SonyEricsson T610. Great phone, but the radio has become dated. Now Blackberry Pearl. Another great phone, but I want more stuff. G1 looks cool! I hope it is as reliable as my other T-Mobile phones have been!
My opinions of T-Mobile are as follows:
- Best deals for voice service in America with excellent coverage.
- Best deals for data service in America since their network has lagged behind at 2.5G. (I do have a Sprint data device for 3G that's decent!)
- Best customer service, hands down! (I tried Sprint for a month. 'Nuff said.)
- T-Mobile also seems to market their products and services to the younger crowd (not me) so G1 seems like a good fit.
I have no hesitation to sign two new 2-year contracts with T-Mobile. They've been great to do business with!

I personally love t-mobile i switched from verizon to get a dash but i've gone through 3 phones since including a iphone but my favorite part is their customer service if im bored i'll just call customer care and make something up because it's always like im talking to a friend not a customer service rep.

T-mobiles customer service is the best thing about the company. My hats off to who ever is the head of that department. I've been with them for 3 years now and even though I 've seen other phones or plans that other companies have that I want, I will never change, just because CS is that good.

I'm happy it came with T-Mobile. Other then the fact that i'm already with them, T-Mobile has given me coverage EVERYWHERE, has fantastic customer service and their representatives fix my problems 90% of the time. If they don't they usually will point me to a place where I could get more information, or simply replace the phone (which is always nice!)
I used Sprint about 6 years ago and I must say it was quite terrible to deal with their reps. Service was horrid!

I've been with T-Mobile or it's forefathers for about 10 years. When I started out it was called Aerial, then Voicestream, then T-Mobile. This goes back to the 1st digital phones beginning to replace analog cellphones. Sprint was 1st with digital (I am, after all, in Kansas City, Sprint's hometown) closely followed by Aerial.
At the time I choose Aerial over Sprint partly because Aerial offed per-second billing, but mostly because I wanted to make sure I got on GSM service. Over the years this has proven to be a wise choice. I've stayed with and will stay with T-Mobile all these years because they have the best customer service and best plans.
And, they've always let me keep a plan a long as I want, even long after it's no longer available to new customers. I kept the per-second billing deal for years after it was discontinued, 'til it finally got cheaper to buy blocks of minutes. I get now 1500 minutes for 39.95 and they say I can keep that as long as I want. A deal.
Now, they've come out with a phone so cool, that does so much stuff AND has an open OS. I couldn't resist and pre-ordered a black G1. Finally gonna retire my trusty old Razr...

I've been with them 6-7 years now. They were the first company I was with, and I went with them because they had the best prices and I was a low-budget high school student.
I've always been extremely satisfied with their customer service, and have only had to call them twice in the past few years (not including the 23rd when I had to get my account changed so I could preorder).
I almost jumped ship earlier this year because the iPhone was a nice looking phone and T-Mobile was seriously lagging with the 3G. I was getting tired of hearing "it'll be out this year!" for the couple years.
If it weren't for the G1, I probably would be with another company. As someone else said, T-Mobile is a smaller company. It's not small, but it is ranked 4th in the country, and this is a good way to boost interest in their services.

They are definitely boosting interest, I never would have considered them before except for a few years back when the Sidekick was pretty big. I'm a for sure customer as long as I can get a G1 in my hands, Im sure many other customers are the same way. This phone is going to boost this company big time.

T-Mobile is a smaller company. It's not small...It certainly isn't. Keep in mind it's actually Deusche Telekom. T-Mobile is only the name for their U.S. operation. Globally, it's a HUGE company, like 3rd largest with over 100 million users. T-Mobile has the resources to do almost anything they want. They've already bought up large chunks of bandwidth in the U.S. for future 4G service.
Look, they're not stupid and neither is Google. Apple approached T-Mobile first with the iPhone because T-Mobile had GSM and great customer service. T-Mobile looked at what Steve Jobs wanted and told him to take a hike. Apple then settled for AT&T because they still got GSM and because they could bend AT&T to their will. Google went with T-Mobile because of GSM and great customer service. T-Mobile went with Google because they also had a great phone idea but they didn't have to give Google the farm with the chickens like AT&T did Apple to make a deal.

I have been with T-mobile since 1999.. Ofcourse, it has changed names at least three times now... But I have never had any problems with the service. Any issues that I have had, they worked out with the quickness..
However I REFUSED to sign another two year contract.. But then they had to join up with Google for the G1.. Looks like I'm sticking around for another two years...

DT actually keeps us on a really tight budget. If we don't make money for them they'll sell it off and not think twice about it. At best T-Mobile USA is a medium fish in their pond and probably smaller. DT is the world's "largest" communications provider.

...Is it me or has anyone else noticed that T-Mo started dropping calls recently? This has been going on for the last couple of months, and I've Never before encountered it with T-Mobile. 2 of my friends who have T-Mo suffer the same. We're all located in Upper Manhattan btw...
So I almost said good bye to the company, and was already shopping for a new phone and provider, when Sept, 23, suddenly came across the info on the launching of G1! haha How ironic is that... T-Mobile doesn't wanna let me go

Honestly, I have not had a problem since I stopped using whatever phone I could get for free.. While using my Blackberry, I did not have a single dropped call..
And honestly, I was thinking about doin the same after I played with a friends Iphone.. Then I got the email from T-Mobile.. So I'll stick around for the G1..
Funny things is, This was their THIRD attempt to get my to sign a new contract.. So I guess they don't want to le me go either...

Hi!
I just ordered my G1 a few days ago, and I'm already looking to mod it. So i found this site! It rocks! So hello all!
I have to say though, i agree with everyone here that's all for t-mo. I cant tell you how many people I've talked into switching. in 2006 when i got my very first contract cell i headed strait for the t-mo kiosk. After living in Germany 3 years before i got hooked on gsm phones and their flexibility - not to mention i was getting my ISDN phone, net and cable from Deutsch Telecom. Even over there they had fantastic service where they didn't even have to to stay on top (that being shortly after the monopoly on the phone lines was over) DT saved my butt over there after a disaster with another newer start-up phone/net company. Their CS rocked too, they were always willing to find me someone to speak English when the German tech terms got out of my capabilities.
So i got t-mo over here and was even more impressed by their service. They had the most service wise to offer. I had a RAZR at the time when i first got into cell phone modding and t-mo honestly even helped me along the way to getting gmaps, opera and all that working. THEN they even told me how to use it as a modem WITHOUT phone tools. I mean, WOW. Wasn't ATT disconnecting people for that?
As of now i have an iPhone.. ya, ya.. i was hooked as soon as i learned about jail-breaking and how to get it on t-zones. But t-mo doesn't even support it and I've still gotten help for it here and there.
Plus, my husbands phone worked in Iraq which was a life saver when there was something important to communicate. Albeit, it was 4.99/minute, t-mo was all to happy to unlock his phone for prepaid sims when he found them.
So ya, I'm hot for t-mo :D . I'm really really glad t-mo got this phone, i really think its the only way the this phone can be what it was suppose to be. If Verizon's had gotten hold of it it might have been completely locked down and never close to what it was meant to be.
Ya, t-mo is usually a little behind on the tech in the US, but when they finally catch up its always worth the wait.
Can't wait to get my G1! Totally got bored with the iPhone when i heard about this. :D

All companies do. DT isn't dumb enough to let T-Mobile bleed them to death. I'm just saying T-Mobile, aka DT, has the resources to do most anything they want to do.
There were strong rumors a while back they might buy Sprint/Nextel, a fairly worthless company, partly to convert a few customers I suppose, but mainly for all the prime bandwidth they own, which is really Sprint's only valuable asset. Sprint actually bought Nextel more for their bandwidth than their customers. They certainly didn't want Nextel's hardware. Anyway, Now it appears DT is willing to sit back and see if Sprint collapses under the weight of their massive Nextel blunder and general incompetence. If it does, DT can (and probably would) easily outbid Verizon or AT&T for the airspace.
At best T-Mobile USA is a medium fish in their pond and probably smaller.
North America is a big market and I doubt they'll say "Screw it" sell T-Mobile and abandon N.A. easily. All indications I see are DT intends to be here in a big way for a long time. If Sprint does go belly-up, it'll be very interesting to see what T-Mobile does. Clearly they want that bandwidth, but just as clearly they want nothing to do with the remnants of Nextel. They don't fancy trying to convert all those Sprint phones to GSM units to keep those customers, or worse, try maintaining 2 incompatible systems like Sprint is failing to do.
It's a quandary for them. The bandwidth is so tempting, but as all-important as that is in this business, the headaches that are bound to come along with bigger airspace may not be worth it to them at any price. Last I heard DT was waiting it out, hoping Sprint would go broke, then the idea would be to scoop up what's left, close down Nextel completely and offer a deal to existing Sprint/Nextel customers on new GSM handsets to keep things simple. OTOH, they may skip it all and build on what they have, stealing those defecting Sprint customers as they go.

T-Mobile has been slow to build 3G in the U.S., yeah. But as I get it, that's because they originally wanted to skip building 3G altogether and go straight to 4G. But 4G, in various forms, has been a techincal challenge for all carriers. So now they're furiously building 3G (actually 3.5) to catch up.
The upside is T-Mobile's 3G network will all be the latest 3.5G stuff while AT&T is a mix of the two and Verizon, since they did 3G first, mostly "straight" 3G. I'd still bet on T-Mobile being first with 4G in a big way.

I don't know that a lot what you say is actually true and don't really want to spend the time to sort out the specifics. I do know Sprint is using four different technologies, that Verizon is the lead in 4g investment and a more likely buyer of Sprint than T-Mobile. The last part is more speculation, but it comes from a credible professional investment source who is vested in Sprint.
Oh and because America is so spread out with so many prohibitive geographical features it is far more expensive to deploy wireless networks here than in most of the wireless world. Costs are higher, deployment takes longer and therefore technology lags behind.

I don't exactly either...who really knows how all this will eventually play out? Everyone's just taking their best guess. Your investor source may be right. Verizon has deep pockets and is certainly in the game if Sprint/Nextel ends up being sold to the highest bidder. Sprint's technology does more closely match with theirs than T-Mobile's (Nextel's is just an orphan). T-Mobile may decide the extra bandwith and customers they would gain just aren't worth all the crap they'd inherit from Sprint/Nextel and let Verizon deal with it. Maybe Sprint will somehow survive on its own.
Most of what I know about Sprint I get from a couple friends who work at Sprint headquarters here in Kansas City. They're somewhere around the middle of the food chain there and so maybe don't always get the Real Deal. The rest I get from my brother-in-law, who knows his stuff. Not that he's a hard-core techie, but he's spent the last 8-9 years supervising cellphone tower construction at various places all over the country. He oversees everything from hiring local contractors to final equipment installation and testing - basically everything but purchasing or leasing the land. Started out doing Nextel towers but building for most of the major carriers the last few years.

actually, one of the main reasons is that t-mobile was one of the original partners of the open handset alliance, and has been supporting google ever since they announced the android software... its not contracts or anything like that like apple does with at&t, its just that googles logical choice on a handset carrier was t-mobile...
i'm sure there may be some kind of soft money transactions going on, but the relationship between these two companies was established a long time ago
if you go to www.openhandsetalliance.com (http://www.openhandsetalliance.com) and go to the alliance tab, and look at the mobile opertaors, you'll notice that verizon and at&t are noticeably not there, while t-mobile is and so is sprint... but sprint didn't get on board until late news of the G1 and the huge booming interest in the adroid OS, so they're just a tag along... with verizon and at&t's corporate views on the cellular world, and along with at&t's worldwide partners as well as verizon being partnered if not owned by vodafone, you can see why they didn't take part of the OHA and you can see why google shyed away from them... granted google is gonna make buttloads off the OS even though its free, they didn't want some nazi carriers backing their first release

It's been great, I've never had to call customer service for anything (again, except for the change in plan for pre-order). They,ve been that great, very pleased with T-Mobile. Regardless of what a company has to offer; if their lacking in customer service then I feel like i'm not getting the quality of service I pay for.
T-Mobile struck gold this time. Wonder if other companies are starting to 'feel the burn'.

I am glad T-Mobile was the first to release an Android phone! I have been with them since 2004 and have been off and on about their service. But when i talk to others in Rhode Island about their carriers, they seem to have the same problems!
T-Mobile's customer service really is top notch! Maybe not so much at the stores, but when you dial 611 and get someone there they are always very helpful. Being the tech geek that i am i always have to be escalated to a higher tier, because the first tier doesn't really know much more then your average Cell phone owner. But when you get into PDA support Level III, its like speaking to someone who browses the same forums as me!
Not only that but the only reason i even started with T-Mobile was i went to make a payment on my girl's account and the person behind the counter asked me if i had my own account, when i said No she said well let's see if we can get you one. I told her i had bad credit and that Verizon and AT&T wanted like $600 just to sign up with them. She said well it won't hurt to try and ran my info. Come to find out i could sign up with them...for free!!! on the smart access plan! So i bought the V300 on the spot and have been with them since!
The phone selection does suck if your not a sidekick or blackberry fan! I've had the Wing since it came out and the MDA before that. But Ebay's selection of Unlocked GSM phones makes being with T-Mobile that much better! Cause they will do all they can to get any device working on their networks!
I can honestly say i am pretty happy with T-Mobile and even though they are not the biggest company, almost everyone i talk to the most is on T-Mobile and i am only using 4 of My5Favs!
