I just called in to T-Mobile regarding the calendar sync (and lack thereof) and talked to one of their smart-device support guys.. he seemed pretty cool, we started talking about the device and such.

Couple things he mentioned that I thought y'all would find interesting. Take it for what it's worth:

The data cap is more along the lines of 10GB. If you go over 10GB in a month, you'll get charged..
HTC is aware of the battery issues and they may issue a recall and release a larger capacity battery, similar to what happened with the T-Mobile Shadow.

Regarding the Calendar sync issue, I noticed that it seems to be kind of pseudo-syncing.. my device says it hasn't synced the calendar since Tuesday the 21st, however, I got online and changed the color of my calendar entries and the changes were reflected on my device.. however, it's still not adding/removing appointments since what was in there on the 21st. Weird. The CS rep told me that the update (whenever it gets pushed out to me) should fix these minor issues.

He also mentioned to make sure that you accept the update when you receive the notification, or it will not get sent to you again. You'll have to contact T-Mobile so they can manually push it to you again and it could take days for it to actually reach you (you'll be re-added to the queue), since the updates are sent out sequentially by IMEI.

Thought I'd pass on the info. Happy Androiding!

nice post.

Might need to verify that data cap info -- its unlimited data; you will just get severely throttled down...

I hope they do a battery recall, they will take a while to do this though

I would think that they would create a way to kill apps before they did a battery recall. Then they could get a better idea of the batteries longevity.

I'm still patiently waiting for my update

Yeah they need to do something about the battery problem ASAP! That's hands down the biggest issue with this phone!

I think t-mobile and htc would be unlikely to issue a recall at this point.. they have even developed the battery recharge product set to ship in a few days... If they did issue a recall, my guess would be that it would be after that product saturated the market and there was still high demand for better life...

Just wild speculation though.

When you say your battery doesn't die out to quickly, what is not to quickly? Do you have everything turned off? Cause on a full charge, with 3G on and everything else off...i am lucky if i get 2-3 hours of actual use out of mine. My battery went from 67% to 55% in less then 10 mins while browsing the web with 3G on. Does yours do better?

ive done 2 different tests with the phone..yesterday i went from 100% from 11 am and tuned 3g, wi fi and gps off... i made it till 9 or 10 pm before i needed a charge.. i eventually turned 3g on so that i could lower the battery a bit.

today i left 3g on with a 100% charge... i left at 8:40 am and the charge lasted till about 2:30 ish.

My point has and still will be that we should be able to use the functions this phone came with, without having to sacrifice battery life. turning everything off does save power greatly tho

As stated several times here, the other apps that are showing up in "task switcher" and when you hold down the "home" button, are not using any battery.

Ok, let me get this straight: HTC designed the G1, created a prototype of it, tested the hell of the prototype, made it into a final product, tested the hell out of the product, and they are just NOW realizing there's a battery problem??? Didn't people report the batter problem within hours of receiving their G1s???

Am I missing something?

Good point. Battery is quite bad, but a POSSIBLE help would be a firmware update; though still not an excuse for such limited battery life.

When I spoke to a G1 Rep., they told me the cap changed from 1GB to 10GB. But, That was per day. It resets at 12am.

Yeah im having major battery issues. Sure i've only had the phone for 3 days and im still playing with the apps but i dont like the fact that i need to recharge mid day.
im using 3g/i have wifi enabled and use it at home/ screen at half bright/ and not using blue tooth (yet). So far im loving everything except for the ever increasing creak, and the battery life.
I guess its a good thing that usb car chargers are on the cheap. Its just wierd coming from a treo and a blackberry before that which recieved over 100 emails a day, and not having to charge either mid day.
Oh well, heres to hoping for a fix via firmware. :)

Even with those two issues its still the best phone i've ever laid my hands on...
(yes i've touched the i)

What if your phone was off or had no service when you were receiving the update?

I can say mine does much better. Using everything full steam ahead I get 6-9 hours. That was the first few days when I was wearing it ragged. Literally it never left my hand for those 6-9 hours.

Now I get more like 10-12 with my regular useage. 3G seems to have an impact so I do turn it off unless I am actually using it (i.e. browsing). I put an AnyCut on my desktop so it's easy to change.

There is just no reason to use 3G for IM, email, and syncing. Not enough bandwidth on those apps to even stress 2G. Why eat up signal searching for 3G all the time.

On the other hand WiFi is almost always on for me. It's what I use at home, at the coffeeshop, etc. Anywhere I can find a signal.

Not saying some people don't have a problem, but personally I have not had a problem, so I think that HTC might be cleared by the fact that not everyone has an issue.

Many will say that it has been such a prominent complaint in this forum that it must be a serious problem overall. Once again, not saying folks aren't having a problem...but what I am saying is folks like you and me who would bother to frequent this board probably test the battery to it's fullest.

I'd most agree the tech nerds (including myself) who use this device and discuss it on these forums are not using the device the same amount as the average consumer.

Maybe some batteries are just bad.
Maybe some just can't handle our type of useage.

Mine works great. Plenty of life (MUCH better than my Dash) and charges faster than any phone I've ever had as well. One and one half hours or less and I go from 30% to 100%.

I did notice the rapid charge earlier this week. I'm able to get a full charge in a lil bit more than an hour which is good. But with listening to mp3s and checkin email accounts my battery dies in 6hrs.
Hopefully the firmware update fixes this issue or a stronger battery.
