On the default message app where the photos of all your contact that your chatting to appearss, can you assign a photo of yourself for your parts of the conversation? I look crap just and empty grey box. But can't figure out how to assign a picture?

Do you have a Facebook account? Once you're logged in, it uses your facebook picture in the Messaging App.

All you need to do is sign in with your facebook username/password within the app itself. If it doesn't update everything from there, I would go through your phone to Settings > Accounts and Sync > and then make sure facebook is synced. If not, click "Add Account" and select facebook. Tell me how it goes!

Hmmm, but it does say your phone is sync'd to facebook right? If that doesn't work, I hear making a contact of yourself with your actual name and phone number (including the area code!) may actually fix the problem.

Hey! Just found this in another forum, try these as well:
"This is caused by a few different problems.
If you go into Settings -> About phone -> Status and the "My Phone Number" section is "Unknown" or not your number, then your problem is that the phone doesn't know which contact to use for you.
If your number is in there and correct then it may not know *which* contact to use, if you have multiple contacts with the same number.
===============
Unknown Number
===============
In the first case (unknown number) you will need to use another handset to change the number, unfortunately if you're with 3 Australia (Three/Hutchinson) then alot of phones won't work for you, if you have the problem of other phones rejecting your SIM card then this is probably the process for you.
Find someone (possibly on the same network as you, not sure how iPhones are locked) with an iPhone and get them to let you put your SIM card in it, on the iPhone go into Settings -> Phone -> My Number and then enter your phone number, hit "Okay" and then eject the SIM.
Put it back in your phone and it should just work, if not follow onto the next procedure.
===============
Multiple Matching Contacts (See Kiserai's post for more detail)
===============
This is easier from gmail, find all the contacts you have with the same number as your phone (with and without country codes) and delete/merge them, if you deleted them create a new contact with your details and avatar in it and save.
After syncing with the mobile your Messaging app should show the correct avatar.
If this doesn't work reply and I'll try and find the solution for you."

Yeah no problem man! That has got to be extremely irritating when messaging people! I run a CMDA phone at the moment, (no SIM Card required), so I'm not quite sure if it would be possible for me to be in the same boat as you. After doing it on an iPhone tell me how it goes!
