I have been using this phone for a couple weeks now and must say I am quite impressed with this phone. The only gripe I have is with the hardware. My G1 seems to creak...alot. Whether im applying pressure from side to side on the face of the phone or the first centimeter of slide causes a creak as well. I know there are people out there that claim they do not have this issue but neither did I for the first week. Is there anyone out there who has had their G1 for more than a week and not experiencing this issue. I think it is more prominant in the black G1 as none of the people i know with brown ones have this issue.

Ya, mine creaks a bit and i only had it since the 21st... figured it would though.. moving plastic part. The screen part is ever so slightly wobbly too... more worried if it will still be in one piece after long usage.

I know dude! I'm using barcode scanner (BS for short?) I'm using BS but its still not working. Its probably my crappy work monitor.
EDIT: There it goes! Had to hold it there for like 30 seconds though, now my arms are tired.

there are posts on this issue but everyone replying to them have only had their g1 for a few days tops. This gives me a way to gauge the problem if it is a progressive thing. Thanks though

I was hoping only people who have had their G1 more than a week would reply.

Yes, I actually started a thread about this also. It still hasn't stopped me from enjoying the phone though.

I've had my g1 since wed. Not quite a week, but iam very worried about this screen. Not so much the creaking but the wobbly action when I am typing and touching (I was skeptical but I love the keyboard and using this phone sideways) I am thinking about buying the insurance but its ridiculous that I pretty much have to buy the phone again because the first feels like it will break. What do u think? Should we start a violent revolution demanding our screens to be solid? Or would that just way tooo consumerist americano of us?
I digress, do I buy the insurance?

i've had mine for a few weeks now too, and mine does not creak whatsoever...
as far as the insurance plan, things have recently changed over at t-mobile... they will soon be moving to in store insurance exchanges, and thus have changed their rates, which of course nobody was notified about... i sure as hell didn't, and it made me feel quite awry when i inquired about it...
for a phone like the g1, the monthly price used to be 5.99 for the insurance, and a deductible of 110 dollars... now they have increased the deductible to 130, and have made some slight changes to the monthly premium price... 4.79 a month will get you just insurance coverage, and you know have the option to make it 5.99 total for asurion's warranty services as well...
most people do not know that asurion also handles warranty issues, and the best part about it is that they offer INCLUDED overnight shipping where as if you were to file a warranty exchange with t-mobile directly, it would be ground UPS 5-7 business days... the feature used to be called equipment protection if i remember correctly, it is not called PHP insurance, or the PHP bundle with insurance and warranty...
previously you had to call asurion to do a warranty exchange, but t-mobile is now handling asurion's warranty claims and can offer you the same overnight shipping at no additional cost...
i don't have insurance for my phone, i don't like it... their customer service used to treat my like crap but its gotten better, supposedly... i have it on some of the other lines on my account

seriously?
ive had mine for two days and everytime i slide the screen a little bit it creaks.....everytime i touch the lower right of the screen, it wobbles......
doesnt bother me too much as long as it doesnt worsen with age.

$5.99 a month and you have to add insurance within 14 days of receiving your phone.
Just read that tread gave a much more elaborate answer....lol
