Ok, so I've been struggling to find out how in the world I can change my login user name (Screen Name) to AIM and I must say it was kind of mind-boggling knowing there had to be a way. A lot of us are new to this but to all of those Android heads, YOU, might find this very simple. Ok, so here was my solution...
1. Go to Settings.
2. Go in Manage applications. Let it compute.
3. Go to "IM Configuration"
4. Under "Storage" click on "Clear data"and select "OK" when prompted.
5. After that, press the back button to bring you back to the "Manage application".
6. Go to the "IM Storage" and do the same as step 3 and 4, and Voila!!
After you complete these steps, go back to your IM App and see that you now can put in a new Screen Name.
Don't thank me. Just be happy there was a way!! :D:eek:

That's cool and all, and I applaud your efforts...but all you have to do is long press on your AIM account and a box will pop up allowing you to edit or delete it.

I don't know why they don't have it similar to Google Talk where it's always signed in. Seems like T-Mobile and company took a step backwards with this one. But I trust in Google/developers/T-Mobile to get this situated.

Maybe to force us to use google talk more so then the other IM clients? Just a thought.

Yeah, but not everyone uses or will use Google Talk.
And using Gmail (at least on a computer) you can access AIM and chat with friends through there.
You think the G1 would be able to do that with GoogleTalk or the Gmail application.

I was hoping this was a solution to all my IMs coming from MY screenname instead of who was really sending them. Someone offered a solution, but unfortunately it didn't help me.

I have found that if I keep a chat open with someone (even myself) it seems to stay connected. Anyone else see this, or was it just a fluke I noticed?

Yeah, it stays online when you're actively in chat. What drives me insane is when I exit to the home screen and when I return it says that all my contacts are offline. But I am still getting IM's in my notification window. (Yahoo)
