Hi,
I'm going to be getting a Motorola Defy soon-ish, and at the moment really like the look of it. However, I'm a bit concerned by the whole Motoblur thing, as it sounds like it's a bit, well, crap, and replaces the perfectly good stock Android interface, email and contacts apps. Is there a way I could replace Motoblur with the stock Android apps, or better yet just install vanilla Android on there? I'm quite happy with the idea of rooting the phone, but it'd be my first time using an Android device (being a happy BlackBerry owner previously) and some kind of step by step thing would be helpful, having Googled all over and come up blank.
Thanks in advance if anyone knows :)

You dont have to use the blur side of the phone- I'm on T- mobile contract and I just moved all my blur bits into the bin!
Sent from my Motorola Defy using Android Community App

OK, Blur delivers your OTA updates to the phone, so if you are keeping un-rooted, you really do have to create a Blur account. However, with the new update (US T-Mo phones) the phone is so smooth that the Blur elements are really not annoying. I use a couple of them, ignore the others.
Also, from your Blur account page you can do a phone locate (which I found to be spot-on, unlike Maps) and a remote wipe.

Again, I was told by both T-Mo and Motor that Motorola OTAs are delivered via Blur. Did you get the new OTA that recently went out? Now, you may not have to actually set an account for this to work, but I'm curious if you got the 3.6.360 update.

He most likely will get that update; like Sense, it is impossible to delete some of the frameworks embedded into the phone if it's still unrooted.
Tinkerman get back with us if ya can ~ :D we're interested

Ah youre talking about a firmware upgrade for the phone itself here? Ota meaning over the air. I thought you were on about a blur upgrade which I wouldnt be interested in. But no I got no upgrade.

Just download a different launcher from the market, adw launcher or launcherpro - either will give you the stock vanilla android feel.

I put Blur on yesterday, not as bad as I thought tho Im not sure I want constant facebook updates! it does allow me to send photos straight to photobucket tho!
I just wish I could round the very annoying Uploads Disabled issue! Even get it with Opera Mini 5!
