I was just thinking right now.
I tell all my friends about Android, awesome product! All the good stuff, and some bad stuff, but those "are going to be resolved with an update." (some).
However, I can't help but complain about the battery.
Well I was just thinking, if we use the phone as a regular phone, tlk + text, the battery will last us.
But if we do 3g or wifi it drains the battery like theres no tomorrow.
When all these apps are gonna come out, how are we gonna enjoy them? play with them by the side of a wall while charging ?
I'm rly excited about Quake.. but i know its gonna drink the battery.
Not only my phone bill went up thanks to data plan.. but i think my electric bill's going up aswell.
What do you guys think of that?
I mean it just crossed my mind a few min ago.

Well, I'm curious also about what's going to take place with this battery situation. Hopefully something will be done very soon. I mean exactly how long do they test these devices out, to see that the OS is killing the battery.

Ok Ive kept quiet about this battery issue for a while. Yesterday I unplugged my phone at 7am. I then did the following
Browsed web for 60 mins
Played Pacman for 30 mins
Played Bonsai blast for 30 mins
Watched FrankenThumb (35 mins)
Had email updating all day
Phone call 15 mins
Copied over some movies resulting in maybe 15 mins charge.
Listened to streaming music on imeem for 30 mins
At 11pm I have 48% battery left. To me that seems fine. I keep my 3g off until I need it. I lowered the screen brightness to 1/3 (plenty bright enough). Maybe I am not a heavy user but the battery seems ok. The main thing I have noticed is the same thing I notice with all LION batteries - they take charge quickly going up % fast when on charger, however this charge doesnt seem stable until they have been trickle filled for some time AFTER the charge reaches 100%. If you quickly charge the G1 expect to see the battery drop like a stone.

Bratag... you might be one of the lucky ones to have a good battery.
Read my 1st post in this topic.

I have my phone plugged in from 11PM - 7AM.
Right now its 11:14PM, battery is at 86% - wifi off, 3g off, bluetooth off, screen res at minimum, all i did today was unplug it, and at around 10 i had about 5 incoming txts, and i sent out 5. so a total of 10 msgs, nothing else.

The phone does charge the battery pretty fast. If you stop charging the battery once it hits 100%, it will die very quickly. I'd recommend charging it for another 2-3 or maybe even 4 hours AFTER it hits 100%. You all probably already know this anyways...

battery condition monitoring isnt working properly which is why we see that the Capacity % isnt real.
you can have your battery show 2% and run for hours
you can have your battery at 100% and change to 2% in 3 seconds but it will still run just fine.
The thing you need to test is the amount of time till the battery cuts out on you and not the monitoring numbers you get.

I've actually thought of this aswell..
charge fully for 8 hours.. and use it without looking at the battery stats.
for some reason i think the readings are wrong.

Glad to see the initial excitement has worn off & some people are actually starting to tell the truth about the g-1! It has numerous engineering flaws... Why do we have to wait for updates to fix things? Did they not test these things before releasing them to the public? I can deal with the bulky & ugliness of the phone, but all these flaws is making me send mine back & wait till a later date to tie myself to T-Mo for another 2 years. They are gonna release a 2nd gen & everyone is gonna be pissed...

Good luck with that - Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out. Since you are sending yours back I expect there will be no reason for you to continue to post.

Why do people have to be so negative to people talking negatively about the phone? I have the phone and love it, but he's kind of right. It kind of seems like this phone has a lot of flaws. You would think these small flaws would have been addressed and worked out before launch.

Simple: charge your G1 phone via the included USB cable while you're on a PC (I use my work PC ;) ) and charge it using a cigarette lighter adapter while you're commuting to and from work. Both are free! (Except for buying a cigarette lighter adapter :( ).

except not everyone works and drives a car all the time.
This should be our "little" PC.
The idea was to use this amazing machinery and not worry about wifi, cables.. anywhere! (that has service).
but now we're depended on plugs.. EVERYWHERE.

I actually don't have a problem with the battery. I was trying to kill it yesterday. And it was a persistent little thing. Maybe I could build it up to last two whole days.

As long as your not using the GPS and half the other stuff. The battery is great.

THis forum isnt just here for people that have the phone it is for us who spend our money wisly and not let our excitement get the best of us. I have money but if T-Mobile transforms into the Iphone and releases a "NEW" Android every other month then no thanx u can keep ur ANDROID DRAINER. Relying on plugs everywhere sounds like a pointless life to me, is it just me or was the whole point of being wireless to not be plugged in? All in all I love the phone but not at this cost of having to buy other stuff to keep it powered might as well buy a laptop.

My battery is that to be expected of a device that has "always on" data. I would like it to be better but it is what it is. I've used tons of 3G Windows Mobile devices on AT&T's 3G network and synced with exchange all day kills your battery. It's kinda the same idea on the G1, you are constantly synced to your Gmail account and always have an open data connection. If you are having battery trouble and haven't made any adjustments to your device, try some of these:
- Turn your GPS off when you don't need it. You can still use your cellular data with maps if you need it.
- Leave your WiFi and Bluetooth off if you don't need it on.
- Adjust when your screen times out, I have mine set at 30 seconds.

Am I the only person that expected a phone with this much going on to have a short battery life? (Like most others.......)
I made some minor adjustments and noticed a major difference in battery life. (no need to list them, as they have been listed a trillion times)
I charge it maybe twice a day, early evening, and when I go to sleep. If I have to use the GPS, I will be in the car, so plugging it to a cigarette adapter doesn't feel like a huge inconvenience to me.

exactly. i ordered my g1 last week and it is arriving on wednesday. have been reading this forum on what to expect with the phone. i saw someone mention that this phone is our "little pc". my girlfriend's laptop gets about 2-3 hours of battery life without being plugged in or charged. i would expect a phone, where you're browsing the net, checking emails and listening to music to need to be fully charged again by the end of the day, even with 3g turned off.
i have a little samsung phone now and if i get chatty for hours with someone on there, the battery is over 50% gone. i would expect if i'm using the g1 for hours that it would need a big pick me up at some point in the day.
my battery life has been pretty good i have to say. im using wifi for about half the day.. and edge the rest. never have 3g on.
thing is i used GPS for about 2 hours yesterday and my battery lasted the whole day. well into the late night before it hit 2%.
ive been trying to get it consistently to like 1-2% and then charge it for about 7 or 8 hours. my battery will show 100% after only like 2 hours charge but i keep it going well beyond that
