msn/aim seems to work better. faster
battery I'll find out everything is on now. wifi & gps
screen still doesn't rotate when you flip into landscape. web brrowsing seems a lil faster

You don't check for the update. The G1 will notify you once it becomes available to you.

NYC here I got the update.

I did notice one change so far. When I plug my phone into a computer it now adds to the "window shade" a notification that its plugged in. If you click on it, it prompts you to enable mass storage.

Beginning October 23, customers who purchased a T-Mobile G1 with Google during the pre-sale offer will receive an Over-the-Air (OTA) update.


This OTA will deliver performance improvements to the G1 devices.
This OTA will fix an issue with the Amazon MP3 downloads.

Customers will receive a pop-up message on their device informing them their device has received an OTA update. The OTA will be sent to pre-sale customers first. Customers who activate their G1 after October 22 will begin to receive the OTA on October 26.
Once G1 customers receive the OTA pop-up message, they will have the option to Update Now or Update Later. After customers complete the OTA, their device will reboot and no further action is required.

This morning around 7:50AM EST> I haven't really played around with it but I noticed that when you plug the phone into the USB, a notification (with sound) appears. Activated on the 22nd. Hampton Roads, VA (non-3G area).

Not really. Not a good idea to have updates all at once, as witnesses by those of us who updated an iPhone a few months ago, and were locked out of their phones when Apple's bandwidth was exceeded.

This update fixes a few minor bugs, so unless they affect you, who cares.

Really.. you're right.

Anybody familiar with sidekick forums such as poweredbydanger.com know that the OTA was a big deal among SK users.

It took a while for people to even understand how OTA works.
