Hi,
About 2 years ago I launched a taxi fare calculator website for the UK. It's doing quite well and is hitting over £10m of enquiries a year at the moment.
But, as everyone keeps pointing out, not many people are sitting in front of their laptop when they are looking for a taxi. They keep asking "where is the mobile version?"
So, with my limited skills in c#.net I have developed a Windows Phone 7 version which is almost ready to go live. It's based on an SOAP/XML webservice which is up and running.
I am looking for a developer who might be interested in writing an Android version of the app and be paid on a % of the sales of the app.
I hope people might see that this is a worthwhile app and not a "fart machine" and might like to get involved.
Please take a few minutes to take a look at a video demo of the app I have written. Basically I just want an android version of this...

Anybody interested?
Thanks
Trev

Hey Trev
Sounds interesting - what is your timeline, if it is not ASAP? I have developed a few in-house android apps, and a couple of iPhone apps, but nothing too exciting. However, I am pretty sure I could provide an Android clone.

Hi Ian,
to be honest my timelines are as exactly as you describe - "ASAP"
im not sure of your background but if you would like to look at the source code for the wp7 (in c#.net) as well as the API (SOAP/XML) please pm me and we can have a chat?

Let me know if you are still looking for someone to develop the android app, it should be easy enough with an existing SOAP service exposed.

unfortunately, the first developer I found has dropped out of the project due to other commitments.

you appear to be a perfect fit. you obviously have extensive knowledge in android development plus you appear to specialise in calculators, which taxiroute is.
done any mapping?

You can e-mail me at john@techndu.com. Our team could do something with. I'll forward your correspondence & idea to them and let them and the Boss give it a look.

If you are looking for an android app for the same...check out Fare Meter on android market. There is also a free version called Auto Fare Meter. The Fare Meter not only calculate fares but also allows you to calculate them without actually travelling. Also, you can add your own cities and different services for each city. Check out the complete article here: http://www.kleptomac.com/a-whole-new-android-app-to-calculate-fares.htm

This sounds like an excellent app, but how is it possible do all taxi meters use the same money to travel ratio, the cost varies so much, for the same journey, I thought they just use all different settings to get more money, I didnt think there was a standard amount that is charged

Last year, I went to Hong Kong and used this clever app. it helped me estimate the fare for each taxi trip. Very useful indeed.
