Your answer lies in the user manual :)

Yeah i have the same problem. Assuming there would be a 'text/sms group option' i logged into my GMail account and added everyone to a group but i cant find a way of sms'ing them all at the same time. I would have a look in the manual but i am at work and the manual is conveniently placed on a cd, in the box at home.

yes the lack of a manual means lots of cool ui features go lost on many people.
its hard ot get people to read a physical manual - stick it on a cd and no one will read it.

basically you can put a comma in between each name. blah. we're whining about it at the above thread

Hello,

I have figured out a way to send mass text messages. What I did was created a text file with all of my friend's phone #s that I wanted to mass text. I then moved this text file onto my SD card and open it up using the application 'Bender'. From there, you can long press to 'Copy All'.

Then when you're composing a message (the phone slider has to be pushed up), you can long press to 'Paste' the text into the To: section. Just be sure each phone # is separated by a comma in your text file already.

This is a little buggy b/c I'll get the prompt to 'Force Closed' my messenger program but the texts will still go through or you can simply just hit 'Wait' and wait for it to send.

There is a app called "text easy" that does this. You can send to groups.

Use the "TextEasy" app in the Market.

Before you can text whoever you want, it's best to go into your GMail Desktop and manipulate all of your contacts. If you click "contacts", you have the ability to create "Groups". Set the groups in your gmail, they will then sync to your G1.

With the TextEasy app installed, you will be allowed to choose which groups to view, you have the ability to message entire groups, and you have the ability to select individual contacts within groups.

Good stuff, just watch that the phone slows considerably during larger mass texts. Try sending no more than 20 texts at one time. Let those process before sending to more people.

Hope this helps!

First of all, the answer IS NOT in the manual!!

For anyone who says to put commas between each contact is OBVIOUSLY someone who does not mass text on a regular basis. And, yes, there are those of us who text 100+ people almost daily (ie: people in promotions).

I just got my G1 and have wasted several HOURS of each day texting each individual person. Also, I can't always think of each persons name I want to text; so commas are NOT the solution. Additionally, starting groups is a waste of my time and, depending on the text, I may not want to send it to EVERY person in that group EVERY time I send a text.

THE SOLUTION I FOUND:
An application called "Text Easy". IT'S FREE!! Download it from the Android Market from your G1.
-Open the market
-Select "Search" option
-Type "Text Easy"
-Select App.
-Install App.

Holy Freaking Easy!! You can select/deselect ALL CONTACTS from your contact list or from groups. You also have the option of scrolling the contact/group list to select specific contacts!!! It gets even better, if you send a text a forgot to include something, simply go back to the thread, type what you forgot and hit send.....no need to select everyone again!! It automatically sends the added info to everyone you sent it to in the first place!!!

SIDE NOTE:
-Runs a little slow but does the job
-Error messages appear but texts are still sent (just hit "wait")
-Texts are still sent one by one but you only have to type/send one message

I think thats it. I hope you all enjoy this as much as I do!

Handcent SMS is a great app where you can send to any of your gmail contact groups. When you go to fill in the to section, click on the plus symbol to the right of it, and you'll be able to then add individuals from your contacts, or from any group (like the "all contacts" group.
