Two times today I was using my G1 and the Touch screen stopped responding. It still recognizes the track ball, but the device has to be reset for the touch screen to work again.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue as well. Once the device has been restarted, things go back to normal. Right now it's not working again. I'm waiting a while to see if it starts working again on its own.

Due to reading some of the posts it may be defective unit you have received. My advice is to contact T-Mobile and have the unit replaced.

I think this is mainly a software issue and not a defective unit. I'll be waiting a few days to see what happens before going into the T-Mobile store. The display still works, but does not recognize any touch input

^^
seems more firm/software for sure. if the touchscreen was defective, i think it wouldnt work at all than just cut out at times.
things is if the new update doesnt fix this, you might have to exchange it cause once your 14 day warranty is up, you might be sol
do you have like 10000 apps installed?

Happens to my phone as well. It has to do with apps and the OS doing something I feel, as the input will return if left alone 15-30 seconds.

I had this problem, took the phone into T-Mobile and got a new one. I suggest you do the same.

Mine worked fine until receiving RC30. After receiving the update, the following took place:
No 3G access
Poor cell tower access and phone access (getting one bar one I used to get 4-5; and poor signal/reception)
No wifi access where once I had wifi access (my house/work)
Called customer support. Went through the master reset and things were back to normal.
Then, began the screen freezing. could not go between screens when this occurred , though I could access the "pop-up" menu. Could not access any short cut on the screen that was showing. Restart of the phone solved the problem, short term. Happened 10 more time on a random basis. Called customer support. Replacement phone on the way!

Whenever I answer the phone my screen either turns black, unusable, or the touch stops working.
the trackball is the only way i can use my phone, if the screen returns to normal.
i've already reset my phone, when a Tmobile representative claimed it would fix my problems.
I don't have a million applications, just a few.
Often times, the screen blinks blue, or stays on green.
It doesn't always charge.
Should i call in for a replacement?

yep, check this thread:

I know phones have their quirks, but its disappointing to see so many random issues popping up. SMS issues, gmail syncing, loose/creaky parts, non responsive buttons, non responsive screens.
Those, on top of the unanimous hardware issues and software deficiencies like video recording, software keyboard, and battery life. I'm starting to get cold feet.(haven't purchased yet, waiting on the big firmware update)

For a warranty replacement they send you the phone first. For a buyer's remorse replacement you gotta return the phone first.
