How to switch from $24.99 plan to $19.99 Total Internet Plan... of $5.99 TZones

Hi guys, I read the official FAQ that you can switch to the $19.99 total internet plan. I called in today and the lady told me "we don't offer this and the minimum you can get with the G1 is $24.99". This is lame since I already have unlimited text messaging on my family plan. Now, what options do we have concerning changing our data plan to a lower rate?

People are reporting different things in different threads, so I figured it'd be nice to have the clear cut answers in one thread.

I tried the same thing and got the same line. I have an unlimited individual plan that includes unlimited text messages. What burns me us is that the ONLY reason I'm on a contract is because I switched to the unlimited messages plan in May (same price as my old plan). So, now I get to pay more for my G1 and more for data? Not happening...

Why would you get the $35 plan if you already have unlimited family texting?

When I bought my G1 the manager tried to scam me into the $35 one claiming my unlimited texting plan wont work... I told him I spoke to several customer service rep about this and they said I should be fine. When he said that sounds like a pretty big risk I told him well that is a risk I'll gladly take, thanks... now can you please just add the $25 plan and charge my card so I can leave?

He seemed pretty pissed. lol.

and could someone also please PM me the work-around, I feel like I'm wasting $5 a month.

guys i just removed tmobile to tmobile on my account and when it came up with the "changes made page" it also had selected the data service to be removed. i took a screen shot and now it does not say "data plan required". sweet niblets!

Just tell them your switching your phone to a Tmobile DASH. So you dont need the g1 plan.

the 19.99 data does not work for G1 its data plan is like that of the sk only for it. The 19.99 is the total inter used for the windows mobile phone i.e. dash, wing, and shadow and G1 will not run on this feature. G1 also does not support the t-zones WAP browser.

If you already have a familytime text then no you dont have to have the bundle data/text together. You would just want the stand alone G1 data feature for 24.99 at first we were told it would be unlimited G1/TEXT FOR 35 and a 400TEXT/UNLIMITED G1 data for 25. When I had the G1 training it was only rumored about the stand alone service then a couple days later it was confirmed with the data only for 24.99.

Just tell them your switching your phone to a Tmobile DASH. So you dont need the g1 plan.
They've set it up so that only the G1 data plans will work with the G1. If not, most of the time you'll get a message when you try to load something up in the browser that you don't have the correct plan.

When I called t-mobile, they have brought up that I don't have the 'official' plan for the G1 and it may not work blah blah but I'm not forced to change anything.

If you use epc.tmobile.com, you will sometimes get the message that you are not on the correct plan.

You still have everything working right on your G1? Youtube, full internet, etc? I have a Blackjack 2 I still like using, would like to easily swap between the two.

Everything still working since day one. Now, if you already have the G1 plan on your account, it's reasonable to assume it'll work on your Blackjack as well.

hmmm. i really dont know about you guys. but i am paying only $19.99 for internet and not the $24.99.

I of course have the unlimited txt family plan which is another $19.99.

This wasnt hard at all to do. all i did was call tmobile and tell them that i was paying for services i didnt need and that i would like to pay 19.99 for the internet while still getting unlimited txt using the unlimited family plan for txt.

I have the HTC Magic (unlocked) etc..

It uses the WIFI and just connects (a lot of places have wifi now) so if this is an alternative to paying I will stick with it

Why do we need this PMed why can't it just be put in this thread for all to see? Big brother? He doesn't have any say in this forum. This is not a tmoble run site, come on. All the instructions on rooting and tethering, both against service agreement with tmoble, and neither are squashed under the boot heels of authority.

The description says up to 100mb a month but it's unlimited I use more than that in two days.

Sorry guys but T-mobile can kiss my ass, you charged me an arm and a leg for the phone, my other leg for my minutes, and tried to rip my last arm off and beat me with it with the data plan. I don't think anyone should pay more for the same product just because the equipment used to access it is different. That's like isp's charging more for internet because you got a Mac book Pro. Fudge that spit! that's my two cents enjoy your new rate plan guys.

What about the "T-Mobile My Account" app? Google maps?

Pick another 3g enabled phone.... quite obvious. and, the plan doesn't include the word "3g" you just need to make sure the phone that you choose is 3g. you will miss out on some features, (mms messaging, t-mo my account, ect.)
