Got speed dial working--sort of

Okay, well I got it working! (Sort of)

If you press 2# (or any number then pound), it will speed dial a number off your sim card. I haven't found what the exact correlation is, but it seems to have something to do with the "index" number of the sim entry (but not exactly). Since there is no apparent way to edit the sim entries from the G1, I took my sim and put it in my HTC Universal, and used the "sim manager" to replace some of the entries.

Speed dialing, while driving a car, is much safer than creating short cuts. That this phone can't seem to handle even the most basic functions, smart phones are expected to have, is beyond lame.

Wait, hitting one button to make a call from a shortcut is not as easy as opening some sort of speed dial menu?

You would leave the dialer open on the phone, then press any button. The buttons are nice and big, straightforward... that's why everyone else has it and has since the bronze age.

And.. what is this push a number followed by the # thing? It does call up a specific number... but why and how?

Hmm. you're wrong. A shortcut button is the fastest/easiest way to make a call. You should learn how to use the phone.

Sorry, but you are wrong. I have had several smart phones, short cuts jam up the screen, are very hard to read while driving... the dialer that comes with this phone is one of the best I've seen, but completely useless while driving. You want to adapt to your phone's deficiencies, go for it. Speed dialing is normal on all smart phones.

Was reading a review of a new iPhone app -- a speed dialer! The reviewer mentioned that the iPhone, like all other phones, doesn't come with a speed dialer built in... I guess the iPhone people rationalize even harder than the G1 people.
