View Full Version : SMS + Entering Name vs Number

Not sure exactly how to phrase this, but is there a way to enter names in the To field of SMS texts as opposed to entering a telephone number? When I attempt to type out a name, it populates the letters of the number instead.

I type in names and it takes me straight to that contact

It does not take me to names. It changes the letters for numbers...

Did you sync through GMail? I've been having issues with the Message center not showing numbers that I sync'd through GMail. If I put the numbers in the G1 by hand, the numbers will show up when I type the names out.

i was having the same problem and i notice that if the numbers are saved into your phone as work, it will not load up through the messaging screen. If you change work to mobile, it works just fine! I just have to get on my gmail and change all my phone numbers that show up as work to mobile =/

Found this solution earlier while I was at work. For whatever reason, my Blackberry must have marked all contacts as "Work" before I sent them to Outlook, and then to Gmail. Updated all contacts, and now names will populate in the To field.
