It's the same reason why people stand in line. They need some kind of refrence point for things that seem cut and dry.

Maybe because both have touchscreens, or could it be because were looking for an OS to match with apples for the iphone ???

Because there is nothing else that one could compare to the G1

Its because Iphones set the standard for pretty much any new phone, especially ones that are touch screen. Its a reasonable comparison, I have a hard time understanding why you think its not.

The comparisons get tiring but it has similar features (touch screen, 3G web access, smartphone for the masses) so they will be compared. The iPhone is still the king (I guess?) so everything is compared to it. If the... let's say... Instinct 'killed' the iPhone, everything would be compared to it.

It's similar to comparing a Chevy Malibu versus Camry. Same segment, Camry is the leader, etc. If you compare a Chevy Malibu against a ... Lexus LS600h, well, it wouldn't make sense =]

i think its natural the two are compared. g1 wants to take the top spot, of course there will be comparisons.
