One of the apps in my drawer was Smart Sound (ver 1.0) and recently I received a notification that a newer version was available. The notification included an "Update Now" button and once the process completed I had the newer version of Smart Sound (ver 1.1) in my app drawer. However, right next to the icon was the link to the OLD version. If I touch that link I get the message "The linked program is no longer installed on your phone."

How can I get rid of the dead link in the app drawer?

Did you check in "manage apps" to see if it can still be uninstalled from there?

You might need to do a full uninstall and reinstall of the app.

Indeed, uninstalling the newer app cleaned out BOTH icons from the app drawer. Reinstalling the newer app only brought back the icon with the link to the newer app so life's good again.

Im curious but afraid to test this, what happens if you have a rooted Android and decide to, say clear all data for the native sms messenger in the permissions screen; i ask because i note that Chomp sms has permission to receive and send sms so if i cleared all app data for native sms -would sms cease to work entirely? If i had two phones to play with id try this out.
