I have 4 emails sitting unread on PC.. nothing has come to my phone. waiting to see how long it takes to "push" to phone. Yes I know i can go into inbox and "refresh" it but i want it pushed :)

I just tried to test it out... I sent an email from my work email (using outlook) to my gmail and less than 15 seconds later my phone gave me the new email notification... Is there an option for push email you might have turned off along the way? I don't see one, but it's my only guess

Is this in your e-mail app or GMail app?
The GMail app is push, the E-mail app is fetch (refresh, or check on scheduled interval).

blackberry is still the best push e-mail on the market... its not fair to compare any push e-mail phone with the blackberry BES/BIS system cause they specifically have it set up to be faster transfers, i won't really explain how it works...
if it gets to you in under 10 minutes, i'd say there is nothing wrong

Im going to have to completely disagree. Microsoft Exchange excels way past blackberry. I have seen people with their crackberries and BES, and the mail takes almost 5-15 seconds more that Exchange does with the same message.

"blackberry is still the best push e-mail on the market" understatement of the year. BB will continue to dominate in this segment.
I'm happy with consistent checking of gmail and pop3 accounts ever 5 minutes.

when talking about blackberry e-mail, i'm primarily talking about microsoft exchange e-mail, not your blackberry.net/.com e-mail... corporations and businesses don't tend to use the blackberry supplied e-mail you get with their service for their e-mail needs
and with direct push on any windows mobile phone i have had using microsoft exchange e-mail, blackberry/research in motion has always beat mine to the punch
Do you have to have Data Synchronization on for gmail to push? I heard that the synchronization drains battery like a mother because it's constantly updating contacts, etc.

i have it to auto sync my gmail. Calender and contacts are off.
How's the battery with auto syncing the gmail?

not bad at all. i'm at 63% right now, been off charger since 7 am and it's 1:30. I've used the web, text'd and IM'd all morning. I have my brightness all the way down and i'm on wifi. I have 3g turned off unless I need it.
sounds good
thanks for the info

I'm getting my mail hitting my G1 simultaneously or even before about 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time it is within 1 minute.
No problem here whatsoever.

I'm not 100% about this, but I think for Gmail to be truly push, you need to be on 3G or EDGE. Again, someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I know using WM's ActiveSync, my email would always lag when I was using Wifi
