How many will sell their current G1 when a thinner, keyboardless version is out? I love the G1 but in today's day and age I need a virtual keyboard!

iono. thats the point of why i never got the iphone. i mean. the storm sounds neat with that clicking touch screen. but in my opinion nothing beats the sturdiness of a full out qwerty hardware. i have big fingers. lol

I had to say it but Apple had it right with this Glass touchscreen keyboard.
But I dislike Apple's strict lockdown on the OS. That why I like Android. If only I could load Android on my iphone...................

Well I mean if you're into something that's built on software and lags time to time then I suppose it's cool. I'm more of the physical keyboard kind of person, I just find it more convienent you know.

If u can w8 about 3 months we all will have the virtual keyboard so there wont b a reason to sell your phone.

One of the main reasons I went with the G1 was because it had a physical QWERTY keyboard.
the keyboard make this phone
its makes it hot

I considered switching to AT&T for the iPhone, despite a bad taste in my mouth after working with AT&T/Cingular in the past.
G1 reared its head at just the right time. One of the big deciding factors was that it had a physical keyboard. Soooo much more responsive than typing on a non-tactile screen (or even one with haptic feedback).

Well personally, I'm in a good spot, although idk how much I like a not keyboard phone, but I would like a thinner version of the G1, still kinda thick.
My GF really likes the G1, so if one comes out that I like and she can switch, then I might be in luck

I like the physical qwerty keyboard.
I came to the G1 from the Dash. Before the Dash, I had a Sidekick II. I'm not giving up web browsing or real keyboards.

I dont know the primary reason I got a G1 is for the Internet, texting, messaging and withought a Keyboard all those things suck. as they do on the Iphone, most Iphone users are lying to themselves when they claim to like the virtual keyboard.

I think I will stick with hardware keyboards for the time being. The G1 is not that thick and well worth the extra 4mm for the physical keyboard. The other thing is that the virtual keyboard takes up precious screen space.
I probably would have gotten the iPhone if it had a better virtual keyboard implementation - namely the ability to use it in landscape mode. Every time I messed around with an iPhone at the store, I could never type very effectively with that virtual keyboard in portrait mode.
My wife has a Sprint Samsung Instinkt and that has a killer virtual keyboard implementation with haptic feedback (but no click screen like the BB Storm, which sounds way cool), but even after getting used to it and as much fun as it is to use, I still make a lot more mistakes than with a physical.

I will like it when the G1 has a soft keyboard in addition to the physical keyboard. I don't mind the extra thickness in order to have the physical keyboard.

Are you serious man? I would call you a moron but that'll be a waste of time and texts, why would I care for an Iphone virtual keyboard, when the Android OS developers can simply create one? This is thee GoD of phones right now. Ask yourself, why have one, when you can have 2. Think next time you decide to converse among the G1 family. Peace.

Have you ever used an iPhone? The G-1 is a lagging monster compared to the iPhone, & now that there is haptic feedback on the keyboard it makes the G-1 look lke the cheap sidekick w/ nice software that it is...

Yeah the virtual keyboard is pretty much the main reason to get a G1 over an iPhone, aside from the OS factor.

Why are you being so critical of the g1 ?. We all knew coming into the device that it wasn't about the looks rather what's under the hood. I would take an ugly device with great software over a nice looking one with a garbage OS.

The iPhone doesn't have garbage OS though! I just think its funny how everyone is in denial about how much Google dropped the ball, & is hoping developers are gonna bail them out... If I didn't hate ATT so much I would def stick w/ my iPhone. It makes the G-1 look like a tired athlete trying to come out of retirement.

I think its funny how people are trying to make the G1 look inferior because Tmobile didn't have it come out of the box fully developed.
Hello, the point of it was to keep it open so WE could develop it to OUR needs. At the end of the day, if your happy w/ the Iphone then go get yourself an iPhone.... i'm perfectly happy w/ the G1 and feel its far superior to the Iphone for my needs.
PS. I bought this phone because of the full keyboard. I can't stand virtual keyboards. I wished these buttons stuck out more like the Sidekicks

Well maybe I'll start making comparisions when your iphone could cut and paste. I don't see why you're not on Macrumors or something. You just continue to bash the G1 for really no reason because it wasn't a bust. There are many people who are happy with the phone and that's what matters, there's always going to be critics.

Look, bottom line is you can't compare the iPhone, which has been out for some time and has had updates in that time, to the G1 which has just come out. the iPhone is/was pretty much a fad or fashion phone, and when all the fanboys of Apple agree on something, it's hard to change their minds with anything other than the next generation iPhone. They sold a lot, yes, but with how much advertising and press??? G1 sold 1.5million preorders without a single pulbic ad. I actually just saw the first commercial on TV yesterday....still AFTER the preorder. How about we wait until G1 and Android have been out for the same amount of time as the iPhone before we start comparing apples to oranges.....or....Apple to Android.

Seriously I like my G1 and I like my iphone which is not being used now. But let's not pretend for a second that the G1 will match the iphone in units sold! The iphone is a great device so is the G1

Personally I would rather have a non-slide non-touch screen phone. Give me the BB/E-Series/Q/Dash form factor any day. RIM hit the nail on the head with the side and shape of the BB Curve IMHO, still the best phone I have ever owned.
nope i love the physical keyboard im always messing up on iphone lame but true g1 ftw but iphone has its strong points too

First and Foremost, What is with all the *OT* chit chat about G1 Vs Whatever. I'm pretty sure this thread is about who is selling their phone if a new keyboardless one comes out.
1st. G1 didn't sell 1.5mil that was a miscalculation.
2nd. The iPhone is only superior due to the fact that it has almost 2yrs of unchallenged status. Until the Samsung Instinct, Blackberry Storm, and obviously the G1, It has been able to develop unabetted.
3rd. The G1 just released just two days ago, the development has been active for about a year, on alpha/beta device builds. Now that an actual device is out, its being developed at a much higher rate now that people are using it in real world situations, rather then in front of a computer SDK & emulator.
That being said:
iPhone Fan Boys, Go back to MacRumor & TUAW
G1 Users, dont responed to the trolls, your just adding fuel to the fire.
I will never..
*repeat* NEVER
*repeat* NEVER
go keyboard-less.
A virtual keyboard is like wearing 3 condoms at once my friend.. and you know what that means.

What's with the weak comparisons between the iPhone and the G1? They're flimsy as all hell lol.
Yo the iPhone has been out for well over a year and still hasn't reached it's full capabilities (and by that I mean, even the people who have hacked it haven't fully tapped in to what it's capable of by their own admission). Some of you are attempting to compare a piece of hardware that's been in DEVELOPMENT about the same amount of time that the iPhone has been OUT (and gone thru TWO SEPARATE iterations, i might add... just added 3G capability, no?). That's not a fair comparison. The G1 has made severa; improvements over the iPhone, but has fallen short in some ways... and it's only been out for 3 days or so. The improvements that have been made haven't even had time to be perfected yet; alot of them won't even be apparent for months.
Sure, the iPhone sold in droves when it came out; it was the FIRST phone to have NO BUTTONS WHATSOEVER; it piggy-backed off of the already runaway success of the iPod and iTunes by allowing people to carry around ONE device as opposed to two; it capitalized on the growing popularity of Mac computers and the Mac OS among a younger generation who were looking for ANOTHER way to "stand out" from the previous one. ALL of these factors, combined with the fact that it was an ingenious technological advancement, contributed to the success of the iPhone, so let's not pretend for one split-second that if it didn't have all of those factors working for it the sales figures would be the same. Don't kid yourselves. If it hadn't been able to interface with iTunes immediately; if it hadn't been a replacement for both a cell-phone AND an iPod; if it hadn't been basically a matching peripheral to an already increasingly popular computing platform (that was already being embraced for it's functions AND aesthetics), the iPhone would be what? The Instinct.
Chill out... Stop trying to compare LeBron to Jordan. Let the kid develop and show you what he's REALLY capable of. Cuz truth be told, LeBron on day one in the NBA vs Jordan on day one in the NBA would have been a MUCH different match-up than LeBron on day 1 vs Jordan in his prime.
