how do we know when we reach the 160 character limit for text messages?

When you're getting near the limit, you get a little number near where you're typing telling how many characters are left. I think it shows up at around 25 characters from the limit.

once you start getting close to it (about 30 characters left) it will display how many characters you have before it turns into 2 or more texts
