That data is pretty hard to get unless crowd sourcing. Even then you'd start off with no data, and thus you'd get tons of negative reviews cause of the lack of data (effectively killing the app).

The only way around that is to have a corporate backing which can put out PR's and such.

Not impossible, just the data is hard to get.

Is there a website that does anything like that? It seems like there would be, seeing how many people drive into and out of cities each day, but I live and work in the suburbs, so I really wouldn't know.

If there was already a website that collected this data, the app would be relatively simple to write - just pull down the data and adjust the view.

I don't think there's a website like that. It's hard to find prices of parking spots when the prices change depending on how much traffic they have.
Unless it's a user dependable website, where users can place the price of a certain parking spot.

Sounds like a cool project though.

Tried finding it on the market and came up with nothing. Googled it, and found out it's called "open spot."

It doesn't have paid parking, which is kind of a shame. And I scrolled around Chicago a little bit and didn't see any markers. Maybe it gets more active at night when people are really out and about.
