I live in area where it is clearly showed coverage of the 3G network. However, when I got the G1 yesterday, it showed EDGE. Today I go to grocery store which is couple miles away from my apt and 3G kicked in. I talked to T-Mobile Rep and she stated they are currently working on some areas coverage and therefore there may be slightly overlaps of the 3G and EDGE networks.
In my case is whatever :) - Edge gets 156kbps so I am happy - I got wifi home so I don feel like being left out if don't have 3G in my apt. Important thing is that my local area does have the coverage :) so yeah... just wanted to make everyone aware...
PS. I am almost on the edge of 3G coverage. What that means is - I am about 7 blocks away from the end of 3G coverage when it comes to ChicagoLand.
Here in MD 3G is non existent, you are luckier than me :(

I had the same problem then found from the home screen press menu and then settings. go to wireless conections on top and activate the gps satellite this will help. I belive the standard preset is using wifi and network to guestimate your location. I have seen better accuracy with the gps satellite on however it drains the battery pretty quick

Says on the T-mo site that I'm not supposed to have it in Ft. Lauderdale, only in Miami, but it has been working on 3g for me all day today in Lauderdale & Pompano Beach...

Strange, same here. It says that i definitely have it in orlando, fl. but i am getting EDGE. I got 3g for a few seconds, and before i could open up a browser and test it out, it went back to edge.

Dang that isn't sounding good for me. I'm a student at UCF, and most of the UCF campus is covered in 3G...but we are right on the edge, so I'm worried (since that is where I will be using it 99% of the time, I need some way to get through class).
Then again I could just use the wifi network that blankets the whole campus.

Sorry I missed your post neighbor, I dont think MD will go 3G this year that i`m sure :p
But yeah when I switched to 2G to conserve battery I didnt get a signal, so I went back and un- checked it. Come to think of it, my browser is indeed faster compared to my BB curve

Las Vegas is supposed to have great 3g coverage but ive been getting much better speed on edge. i just got my g1 today and have had my 3g connection drop down to edge without going anywhere -- its happened both at work and at home. They may still have some issues with the network, at least in certain areas.

That blows . But atleast edge was pretty fast for me .

What suburb or neighborhood are you located in? A few of the Chicago area g1 people have been having different experiences, so I'm curious to compare.
