Well, UPS man showed up for round two today to deliver the HTC 3-in-1 USB adapter (http://store.androidcommunity.com/content/accessories/11-176--3571.htm) and the mini USB stereo adapter (http://store.androidcommunity.com/content/accessories/12-45--2373.htm) that I bought from our very own Android Market! As we speak I am currently charging my device from the wall, and listening to my music via the 3.5mm at the same time! I also used the mini USB stereo adapter and it works perfectly! The fit from the male end of my headphones and the female end of the adapter was a perfect fit and it stuck in there very snug, erasing the fear of mine that the headphones would come unplugged very easily. Great products and work as advertised!

What kind of headphones did you hook up? How is the sound compared to a good MP3 player? Any detail on sound quality appreciated.

I hooked up some sennheiser noise canceling headphones that I stole from a concert I was the sound engineer for. The sound quality is better than the ipod nano I've been using. I mean, its not vinyl, but not too shabby either! If you're used to using any kind of mp3 player the quality on this is just as good or better! I am using the stock audio player, and I do wish that if another 3rd party player comes out it has control of EQ, and not just "pre-sets" like the iphone has, I want some real parametric EQ control.. Maybe thats just a pipe dream, who knows..

@FSUftblifan: Awesome, thanks... I wasn't sure what to think of the USB for sound setup, but looks like this will work out after all. My last HTC phone was the Apache Sprint PPC 6700 which had a 2.5mm headphone jack. Using an adapter amd same Sony MDR 7605 headphones, the sound was nowhere as good as the sound of my Creative Zen Vision M, so this is good news (presuming an iPod and then Zen have comparable sound quality).

I just ordered that same item today. I'm hoping to have it by friday so I can hook my phone up to my friend's car and we can listen to music.

A question for the OP, What happens when you receive a call if you just have standard 3.5mm headphones plugged in to the 3 in 1 adapter? How about with the other adapter? Do you just use the mic on the phone or do you have to unplug the adapters from the G1?

that's an interesting question I never thought of.
and that made me ask, when you're listening to music, if you get a msg or a call do you hear that from the headphone?

I might have to order this. Maybe Ill use the G1 to replace my 3G Nano. Hmmm Maybe.

Alright guys, the way it works is as follows: When any adapter is plugged into the 11pin HTC "mini USB" on the G1 ALL sound is routed through that (From my experience since I've had these adapters.) When you are listening to music and you get a call the music stops and you hear your ringtone through the headphones (whatever ringtone that might be.) You can answer with the headphones plugged in and you can hear the other person, but the other person cannot hear you. When you have an adapter plugged into the phone that has the configuration on it to support a headset microphone the phone cannot differentiate when you do or don't have the correct headset plugged in, the phone just assumes that you want all of the sound to come to the adapter and that you will route it from there. So, if you don't have any headphones in, but have the adapter plugged in, any sound that comes from the phone will go to the adapter and die because it has nowhere to go. So, to sum it up, when an adapter is plugged in and you have headphones in any sound that comes from the phone will be routed through the headphones but if they are regular stereo headphones (no mic) you will NOT be able to talk on a call with the adapter plugged in. I know I didn't explain this very well, so if you have any further questions PM me and I'll try to go further into depth about it.

so basically you can hear everything with any kind of adapter but you can only talk when you have "HTC adapter" on.
and guess that's why HTC changed the handsfree in the box

Thanks for the explanation, FSUftbllfan. I got the HTC 3 in1 adapter in the mail yesterday and tried it out while walking my dog. An incoming call proved what FSUftbllfan said, I could hear, but they couldn't. I just unplugged the adapter from the phone and was able to talk.

Here's my new problem though. I was listening to music at a reasonable volume when the phone rang. It is the "Digital Phone" ringtone. I was wearing IEM's, and it was so loud that I am afraid I might have received some hearing damage. Apparently the ringer volume doesn't pay attention to whether or not you are listening to music. This renders the device near useless as an MP3 player since I could go deaf by forgetting to turn the ringer down before opening the MP3 player.

Any suggestions?

This is actually explained pretty well. However, its really dissapointing!!! I finally ordered a two-in-one generic adapter over the internet, which allows me to charge and listen to music at the same time. However, when calls come in the caller can't hear me. Unplugging the device while driving to answer a call is not the safest thing to do.

1) Does anyone know if calls would still be routed over bluetooth with the adapter plugged in?
2) Does anyone know if an adapter is sold which would allow me use an adapter without using an external mic?

I don't like discovering problems like this...

Thanks for any help.

I've had serious problems with the volume controls miss scaling at to what i'm using them. I have to turn them all the way down and up every once in awhile to make sure that they're spot on.

1) Does anyone know if calls would still be routed over bluetooth with the adapter plugged in?

My cousin has a bluetooth stereo in his car and the 3-in-1 adapter plugged into his AUX input. When he's playing music and someone is calling, the bluetooth takes precedence and picks up the call (the music will pause as well and resume after the call).

2) Does anyone know if an adapter is sold which would allow me use an adapter without using an external mic?

There is this 3-in-1 adapter here: http://oriongadgets.amazonwebstore.com/TMobile-G1-3in1-Synch-Charge-Stereo/M/B001J61TQI.htm. It has a 3.5 headphone jack converted, side mini-USB to plug in a charger, and a mic.

NOTE!!! I just received mine today and I've been having problems with it though. It plays fine for a minute but then all of a sudden the music player goes beserk and goes into party shuffle mode and keeps skipping songs while the adapter is plugged in. I'm still working on figuring it out, someone else has had this problem as well - http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f41/music-player-going-crazy-after-rc30-6970/. It may be a software problem not a hardware problem.
