I am very confused and hoping for a little heads up..

I bought a hero a few months back and got everything setup, got my google account and pop email configured etc. Downloaded some apps - great i thought.

The issue was when i connected to my cars hands free unit (Kenwood KCA-BT200) i got a connection but the phonebook wouldn't sync. I searched the web for a solution and it seams it can't be done easily - a common problem. The phone shop said this is normal and by design for security.

now for the odd part..

The handset developed a fault and was replaced. The new handset had no google account or any email setup, just a few phone numbers from the sim card. When i tried to setup my googlemail it always returned an error. Tech support told me to factory reset the unit and try the account setup during first run. BEFORE i did this i tried the bluetooth handsfree in my car - this time the phonebook successfully sync'd! So i did the factory reset and punched in my google account, whiched worked this time. I re-paired the bluetooth to my car - and NO phonebook!

So it seems that the phone will connect and sync with a hands free, but only if you have no mail setup?! Is there some function disabled as soon as you configure an account?

I intend to re-set the phone again today and test the bt before configuring any accounts, to see if this is repeatable.

If anyone has any idea whats going on with this bluetooth i'd appreciate some clarification?! i'm spending a phenominal amount of time trying to figure this out.

Perhaps the hands free unit is only compatible with contacts on the SIM card. Maybe when the phone isn't sync'd with google, it directs the hands free unit to the contact information on the SIM card. When it is sync'd though, it directs the bluetooth device to where the Google contact information is stored, and the hands free unit wasn't designed to do that, so it can't read them.

Just a guess.

Try putting your contacts on your SIM. The contact2sim app works well.

Thanks for the reply Synergy,

I tried what you suggested, which made a lot of sense. Unfortunately it wouldn't sync with only a few contacts in the sim. I then copied them to phone and tried again, same result. It's as if some feature was disabled the second it connected to google. I will try a factory reset later and add a repeat the tests above before adding any google or email account info and see if it syncs again.

I guess the interesting thing is that it did once syns. All of the web chatter that i've read say's that the phone won't do this.

thanks again.
