View Full Version : Question about data plan and T-mobile wifi hotspots
I just read that when you get the data plan required for the G1 it also includes T-mobile Wifi hotspots. Does this mean that only my G1 can access the hotspots or can I jump on my laptop and access it?

from what I have been reading you can are able to use other WI FI and I have also learned when using WIFI you are not able t recv calls. if you go to http://www.t-mobileg1.com/ they have a G1™ Community Forum going now. look at the bottom of the page once into the forum look the topic

Not able to recieve calls while on the WIFI? I've used T-Mobile hotspots while using my T-Mobile phone many times. I can assure you that this information is random bull s#!t.
On a side note, is it just me, or is T-mo's forum really ugly?

yea..... you can recive calls while on wifi, as far as the hotspots, I have no clue, It would make sense but you know profit profit profit
Just to clarify, I'm talking about using Tmobile hotspots at places like Borders or Barnes. Tmobile charges when using these hotspots but apparently the data plan on the G1 allows you to use the G1 at these places. My question is if you can also use your laptops at these hotspots.

In the booklet titled T-Mobile HotSpot Terms and Conditions that comes with the G1 on page 4 under use of service it states. You are receiving a single user account solely for your use of the service through one device per login session. No where does it state that you can't use your laptop to access a tmobile hotspot only that it has to be one device at a time. I also called and talked to a gal in the data department and she confirmed that you can still use your laptop for access and it costs nothing extra.

you should be able to, i haven't tried recently but its been like that on the 19.99 total internet plan for quite sometime now, so i don't see why it wouldn't work...
the default username and password when i had it was your phone number starting with the area code, and the last four of the account holder's social security number for the password

I tried my phone number and last 4 ssn. Anyone know what we use for the username and password to get access to T-mobile's Hotspots?

Per the rep I talked to on Sunday 11/30 you can log in to the hotspot with your G1 but they don't support/allow it with your laptop. We tried & were having no luck so we called them & went thru several departments before they came back with that answer.
We used to previously with our $19.99 data plan but they're telling us the more expensive G1 plan doesn't allow it.

Hi Everyone:
I just bought a Tmobile Behold phone and I love it! I do not have a data plan and I can text and check my AOL mail through my phone. All you need is a Text messaging bundle because these are charged as text messages. I can also Instant Message with the same bundle. No data plan required unless you want to surf the web which I do on my computer. I was also told if you want to get the rebate, you can sign up for a data plan for one month and then cancel after you get your data plan. I was told this at the tmobile store. However, I decided not to chance it, and got my phone for $250 for a one year contract with no rebate.
