If you are on a "waiting list" at a T-Mobile store, then you might want to read this.

I just talked to someone at the store in which I had my name placed on a waiting list. I wanted to confirm that the waiting list still EXISTS, and also ask if this meant I was guaranteed a phone on the 22nd. The guy told me that I should wait for a phone call from the person who took down my info, and that they would set up an appointment for me to come in. That's right, he said APPOINTMENT!!! When I asked him if he was getting calls like this regularly, he laughed and said, "All the time!" I felt bad for adding to the list of worried G1 coveters who are calling, but after reading a few posts on this site that said T-Mobile reps were telling the stores to get rid of the waiting list, I felt I should call. I told the guy about what I had read, and he laughed and told me the waiting lists are still very much intact.

He told me that they weren't going to be able to hold my phone "for too long" and that if they started to run low on supplies, that they would have to release my phone for someone else to buy. It's starting to look like I'm going to have to take a personal day to get my hands on this bad boy. The store usually opens at 10am, but on the 22nd he said it would be open at 8am.

I hope this eases some of your worries!

I tried pre-ordering, but I would have had to pay the $299 price instead of the $179. The guy on the phone told me I was really close to being at the 22 month point, so he said he would make a note on my account that I would be eligible for the $179 price....but only if I went to a store and bought it on the 22nd!!!

Believe me, if I would have been able to pre-order it, I would have. Just didn't want to spend an extra $120.

I've got my name on three different waiting lists, so if the one I mentioned before falls through, I've got two other stores to bank on.

BTW, can you tell me what difference does it make going through corp and placing a general pre-order ourselves for $179?

Can I tell you the difference? No. I just know that I wasn't eligible for the $179 price, so I have to go buy it at a store on the 22nd. Doesn't matter. I actually like challenges. Makes things more interesting. Pre-ordering, then sitting around waiting for it to be delivered to my doorstep seems too easy.

as far as i know. I went to a t-mo store near where i live. they weren't getting the g1 because they weren't in the 3g area. another store 20 miles away is in the 3g area and the rep called someone there to put me on the list (#8)...so...i should be...

This sounds like the kind of hoops stores like Gamestop makes you jump through when major new console gaming systems and games are released.

I'm sending good vibes to all those braving the stores on release day. Good luck! :D

I am on a waiting list but I was told they would not hold a phone for me. The waiting list is being used to notify us of any updates. They're supposed to call me up and let me know when the units have arrived and to let me know how many they'll have available.

I think I heard somewhere that it was against company policy to hold phones for anyone on a waiting list.

Isn't it great how every rep has a different set of rules and policies and through a number of threads we've learned that we all get treated differently, regarding everything from phone pre-order, to contract re-up, to freebies etc..?

from what ive been able to gather certain stores are doing it differently.. this directly competes with what two store managers have told me

Yeah, I'm just going to wait for this T-Mobile employee to call me. They said they would call "a few days before launch", so if they don't call me by Monday to tell me when to come in, I'll just call them back.

Now the REAL countdown begins. 7 days....

The T-mobile stores around me are not holding a waiting list. Also, the representative said they only had black and brown G1's. Does anyone know if the white one is just being released at certain locations?
