I know its called the "invisible" shield, but are there like air bubbles or it is noticeable when you put it on your phone? and lastly does it mess up the phone in anyway if you ever needed to take the shield off?

No. You use a liquid on the sticky side & it comes out perfect. I swear to you, you cant see any bubbles if you apply it right. I have the back of my iPhone completely polished to a high shine & you still cant see it!

I think I read somewhere that on the iPhone (which has the same type of screen as the G1) it doesn't affect responsiveness and actually increases touch accuracy.

Just a heads up, on the tmonews forums there's a chain of the codes going in which the person that ordered posts theirs, then the people that use those post theirs, etc, etc.
I'd suggest starting that here, or if you go over there, make sure to reciprocate with at least one code.

Well I just about bought it until I realized it didn't have google checkout, my card is in the other room and I am WAY too comfortable to go get it! I'll be making the purchase tomorrow. I'm still a bit skeptical about it though, does the liquid dry pretty quickly, otherwise wouldn't the excess get scrapped out and go under the screen? I'm worried but I'll trust all of you that swear by it..

You shouldn't use your phone for 2 hours at least after you apply it. & I used a blow dryer on med heat, low setting to make sure there could be no liquid damage. Go on youtube & put in ghost armor, invisi shield, clear armor, or clear protectors, & there is a video of instillation. Good luck.

Hello Ivan,
Thank you for contacting ZAGG, home of the invisibleSHIELD! My name is Kevin and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
In regards to your email, the full coverage option for the invisibleSHIELD includes coverage for the entire device except for the keypads and soft lcd screens.
I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions or comments.
Thank you for choosing the invisibleSHIELD. We appreciate your business!

So from this i take it does not include the lcd cover. Which sucks since thats what i was most interested in.

I have it on my PSP and I ended up taking it off all but the screen. I didn't like how two different sheets meet. If you don't get it perfect it doesn't look right to me. Also I didn't care for the feel of it. Personal preference though. I can say it is the best screen protector I have ever used excellent product!!!!

I have it on my phone now, you cant see it unless you're looking for it. You do notice a small step down in picture quality with it on, it doesn't look as crisp as it does without it. You can def feel the difference though, it will take some getting used to especially with a touch screen. I will have the screen cover on mine though, better safe then sorry!

I think I read somewhere that on the iPhone (which has the same type of screen as the G1) it doesn't affect responsiveness and actually increases touch accuracy.
I strongly disagree with this. There are some things to consider here:
The invisibleSHIELD is a very grippy plastic. I've seen someone stick an iphone to a smooth wall with one. This grippiness is nice on the back of the iphone, but it's a drawback on the screen. When the whole OS is designed around slipping and sliding your fingers around on the screen, the ideal surface is glass with finger grease on it. The invisibleSHIELD takes away the smoothness of the gesturing on the iphone. It also makes it somewhat more difficult to click. --It's not terrible, but there's a noticeable difference in the sensitivity. It may be fine for you if you've never had a touchscreen. But if you use your G1 for several days before putting on the shield, you're going to notice.
One other thing that someone mentioned is that it affects the appearance of the screen. Again, it's somewhat minor, but the screen takes on a "colored grain" that is very small, as the natural grainy texture of the shield refracts the RGB pixels somewhat. Also, tiny lines from the manufacturing process (very small, straight lines) will sometimes line up perfectly with the gap between pixels, again refracting, and leaving a noticeable line depending on the angle you're looking at.
These are just unavoidable drawbacks of putting such a tough protection on your device. For some, they may be 100% worth it. As for me, I'm still on the fence. I definitely prefer devices naked, but protection is important, and I can vouch that these things are UNBELIEVABLY tough and amazing. The effects I mentioned are somewhat minor, but please don't delude yourself that there will be no difference between the phone with and without it.
One more thing: For those of you who have not yet held the phone: it has a very soft, warm feeling rubberized kind of texture to it. It's VERY nice in the hand. InvisibleSHIELD is going to kill that, and may also affect the color somewhat, as glossing up something that is otherwise matte usually tends to deepen/darken the perceived color. You can't see it on the iphone unless you're looking for it, because the iphone is already piano black finish. This phone...you may very well see it in the seams.
Just food for thought.

Well, I was on the fence but you kinda convinced me not to get it. I know that was not the point of your post, but your post just re-affirmed some of my fears about the cover. I know protection is very important, but I'll just keep it in the case that comes in the box while the phone is in my pocket to protect it against scratches. Thanks for the info!

Right. It wasn't my intent to persuade people not to, but I'm being as objective as I can. I'm still very on the fence myself, because they are freaking awesome shields... But looking at my phone I've had for a year without a scratch, with a soft plastic screen... I think it'll be fine naked.

I live in Dallas and I went to two malls that sold accessories, I had them check to see if they had any Invisible Shields for the G1 and they did not. However, they asked for my G1 for 24 hours and not only did they give me one for free but they also installed it. They needed one to have cut directly so they can sell it. If you live in the Dallas area, look around for them - they should be around a bit quicker than waiting to get them online at the site. However, the downside is the price. You will pay $30 including shipping, but your phone is covered before you even start to use it.

I wouldn't get Invisible Shield if I was you guys..due to orange peel. Invisible shield skins are strong and have a good cut to them but...they have orange peel. And trust me your going to hate to have orange peel on your screen.. OH and if you don't know what orange peel is it's like this wavy texture on the skin. If you still don't know what it is...go take an orange, look at the skin of the orange and look at all the weird bumpy texture look it has. That's what invisible shields have..I suggest BODYGUARDZ = No Orange Peel..

I'm really surprised so many people just went with this without first seeing it.
The orange peel is terrible and I just cannot stand it. Went with bodyguardz, got it today through usps. Looked at it and just realized how small the G1 screen is! But as for the bodyguardz screen, it's very clear and really smooth.

I spent two meticulous hours applying my invisible shield last night. I should point out that I'm totally anal about stuff like this and followed the directions to the tee. I want to protect my phone, but I want it to look and feel good too. My verdict? 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. Okay, sure, I believe it will PROTECT my phone, but at what cost? If you're the kind of person who likes plastic on your sofa, you're gonna love this. BUT, you can definitely tell it's there. In fact, I've already removed the piece that was on the back. Despite my best efforts, it was very bubbly and the corners just wouldn't stay down. (tried the palming and molding methods I saw on YouTube.) But the texture of the G1's back is not glass or even metal or smooth plastic. I think it'll be near impossible for the shield to fit perfectly on such a porous surface. The rest of the pieces are cut well and fit good, but I'm getting tiny bits of dirt and lint around the edges. I can see how this would be much better on an iPhone (only what - two pieces? The G1 shield has 7 pieces of shield.) and frankly the piece that fits right over the screen is virtually perfect. Looks good, feels good, got all the bubbles out. Although it is a little different as far as sensitivity goes. I think I'll just have to get used to that. Fingerprints are less than without the shield, but more than with the screen protector that came on the G1 in the first place. If you're looking for something to protect from minor wear and tear, this might be too much. If you're like me and cracked the screen of your T-Mobile DASH (twice!) then you'll want the protection the Invisible Shield offers. Overall, just a little less comfortable and less sensitive with the shield than without, but clearly more protected. (Sounds kinda like prom night. sorry, couldn't help myself. ;) )

Me too. But lucky me, i have to wait till Nov 10th to get a replacement G1. :( I have seen 0 pics from AC'ers! Where are the pics at?
Same here! I returned my G1 last week and am waiting for Nov 10th. I also got my Invisible Shield today which was a little sad since I don't have my G1. Is the "orange peel" that bad? Any pics of it?
I ordered and just today received the invisible shield for the screen, only.
I have no desire to cover the G1 with plastic... one of the things I really like is the soft touch feel of the device.
How's the shield on the screen only? Is it very noticable, or is it only noticable on the body of the G1?
I have left the screen protector that came with the device on it so far, and it still looks good as new (after a whopping, what? 5 days??? Got my G1 last Weds. on launch day)
Guess I'll keep the IS in my drawer, until the screen protector my G1 begins to show wear and tear.
nosaj13
10-28-2008, 09:05 AM
I ordered the invisibleshield, but am a little reluctant to put it on because I don't really care for the high gloss look shown in the pics. Is bodyguardz going to give me the same effect? Also, is it necessary to use a screen protector since as i understand it the screen is glass and unlikely to get scratched without one?
Thanks

10-28-2008, 11:31 AM
i will put up picks soon but i got my invisible shield yesterday,
as long as you are very carefull and make sure that you pay very good attention to detail the thing looks flawless, makes you feel like your phone is invincible, makes it have grip so its easy to hold, amazing
as far as the orange peel effect....
CAUTION
i believe that this is caused by putting too much stress on the stickers when trying to position them by pulling/ pushing them, i believe that it causes it to stretch a very small amount that isnt able to be seen in any way but it showing up as a strange (orange peel) texture.
but other then that, its like i said, i am very happy and satisfied!!!:D

10-28-2008, 04:59 PM
I put the screen protector on it last night and I like it. You can't really tell it's there unless you stand in the light. It is glossy and has a slight rubbery feel to it. Doesn't really affect the response of the touch screen other than pressing a bit harder on icons and such. Downside for me is that there's orange peel on mine. Doesn't show up unless I'm directly under light but still...
I have the other pieces for full coverage but I'm debating as to whether or not I'm going to put them on. Protection for the entire device is nice but it kinda looks like the G1 has a shiny condom on from the earlier pictures.
I'll try and some pics up of the screen later.

The first image is included to show the "wavy" look the shield has when the screen is off. Looks funny, but not a huge deal since it absolutely can't be seen while the screen is on.
The rest of the images try to show the edge of the invisibleSHIELD... In the hi-res pics you can really see the edges, but when looking @ the device with your own eyes, you really can't see it. And all the dust/fuzz in the pics - it's all on top of the device... It's been in my pocket all day - didnt dust it off before snapping pics.

how is everyone liking their invisible shields? i just put mine on tonight... really has a different feel, not sure what I think about it yet, i love the protection it offers but it doesn't feel nearly as responsive. I'll just have to get used to it i guess

i got the screen only. still don't know what to think of it. i dont like the extra bit of grip it gives the screen, but it may just take me getting use to it, rather have it protected, but still not 100% if im going to keep it on.
do any of the others (bodyguardz or bestskinever) have that same grip to them? anyone know?

I'm with you. I've had mine on for about 40hrs now so it's as set as it's gonna get I think. I like the protection, but the "grip"... not a fan.
It's like my finger doesn't glide across the screen like it used to... I think I'll get used to it - it's not THAT big of a deal... but I'm not used to it YET.
I just ordered the full body kit but I'm not going to apply it to the back, just entire front. My brother installed the invisibleSHIELD on his touch screen phone and I actually got used to the grippyness of it.
There is actually no need to really put a layer on the back. Its pretty scuff resistant. I actually attempted to key mines moderately, the back cover, and nothing happened. Just giving you guys who don't know an idea how well the material on the back cover resists YOUR KEYS.
It still can be scratched, just not as easily or noticable as other common phones.

I have installed mine but even following instructions I still got bubbles all over the phone.
How long I need to wait to see these bubbles vanishing?
Can I take off InvisibleShield if bubbles do not go away and just follow instructions again and re-apply it back onto the phone?

Same here... but I just applied the screen part... I only have like 4 tiny bubbles after application - so I'm assuming I did it okay. Not sure if I want the entire phone covered now. I guess I can always apply it ALL and remove it if it looks like crap. :(

I Installed the invisible sheild last night. I did the front ok, and the sides. A little bit of overlapping that i used scissors to fix, but i think thats because i placed it on there bad.
The back cover was by far the hardest peice to do, only because its so ginormously big.
I ended up taking it all off today except for the screen, i didn't like the way it felt to the touch. The matte-ish finish on phone itself is much more nicer to touch. The screen i left on though, it didn't come out too bad. I gotta get my moneys worth somehow...

It looks like you didn't get all of the bubbles out when you were squeegee it after applying. I don't know if it'll all disappear after curing. :( You could try reapplying it but there is some sort of adhesive on the back so I don't know if it'll work. I think ZAGG will refund you or send you a new one if you contact them. Not 100% sure. I read that on an iPhone forum someplace when I was looking for IS reviews.
The key to applying is patience, prepping the piece before installation, lots of solution, and patience.

Yes, you can (and should go ahead and) take it off and reapply. If there are actual "bubbles", not just the "orange peel" look (as it was described by someone else), it wasn't applied 100% correctly.
Mine's got that orange peel look, and I'm not 100% ok with it. You can't see it one bit when the screen is on, but when the screen is off - it's obvious.

Got my g1 yesterday and it went straight into the IS. Only put on the front though as I love the rubber backing, and don't want it all glossy like the front.
I like the invisible shield, and it feels really good protection wise. Manuvering is not too bad, you definitely need to add more pressure though. Installation was relatively easy, was expecting something much much harder but the screen just popped right on and was great. I may remove the extras and just keep the screen if the few streaks that I have left don't go away by the weekend or so. Overall, quite happy with it.

I just let it sit. I used it for a bit right after applying then I just left it alone overnight. Took it to school and it was pretty good. Right now, (about 26 hours later) MOST of the bubbles are totally gone and there are very few along the sides.

Those bubbles look pretty big to me. I spent a lot of time on mine about 2 hours, but i ended up with one small bubble. Toughest part was the corners.
A tip for the back, use a lot of solution. start in the middle (spray solution also on the top of the shield as well - makes it glide better) then go one direction using the squeegee one way. Hope it helps.

Ok - I re-installed InvisibleShield and it seemed no adhesive surface was lost at all. This time I took extra time and installed it the same way they did on the website - lots of moisture and problem solved.
Now, I do not have that many bubbles to worry about - I will leave the phone for about 2 days to dry out. If I see a single bubble on the phone guess who will return invisible shield.
What I noticed is that videos they showed on their website contain definitely different Invisible Shield material wise - somehow on the video it looks firm and stiff where this what I got is somehow gummy and stretchable and very easy to mess up.
Good thing is they have 30-day money back warranty :)

I have the Invisible shield and I am NOT impressed! It took like 45 min to apply I am not happy adding that spray on the shield as well as when you apply it to the phone. It had a ton of small pieces uggghhhh!. I DO NOT like the shiny look of it either. Yes it does protect the phone but I would never order it again.....

I love invisibleshield. I first tried it out when I got my iPod a couple years back, when all they sent you was the shield and instructions saying that I had to basically make the solution myself, out of water and baby shampoo. I'm pretty patient, and I had a lot of practice from putting it on my cousin's ipods. So it turned out really well. It's still on my iPod, and it's still scratch free.
I definately wasn't going to get a full body for my phone because I love the matte finish, so I got the screen protector instead. Just put it on today, and no bubbles- I even got one for the screen of my dSLR.
So long live InvisibleShield! It may be a bitch to put on, but definately worth the effort.

It's always been that gummy material to my knowledge. At least the last 10 times I've applied one it was.

Corners and invisibleshield installation is simple pain in the bottom :) ...
I have re-installed id and here is what I think:
- Phone got shine that looks like $5 cell phone toy from the ToysRUs
- Some of the dust content got stuck underneath the shield and I cant get it out. Looks very ugly.
- Grip is somewhat ok; Once you get used to it it is ok - it is not slippery which is good.
- Shield will most likely bother your manufacturer case surface meaning it is difficult to put the phone into the sleeve and take it back out... I mean more difficult than without the Shield on.
- I still have 3 small bubbles of 1/8" size - and dozen small ones on the edges that clearly showed up due to re-installing the shield.
I will give it a couple more days and see if it's going smooth what my need is. Currently I am decided to return the shield 70% vs 30% to keep it.

I received my IS late last week, installed it and let it sit for about 12 hours. I was DILIGENT about that squeegee and only had one small teeny tiny bubble in my way at the bottom of the chin just before turning the edge.... but i worked it with a mini squeegee - aka my finger nail, and it is completely gone now.
Mine seems totally smooth and glass like. I noted the orange peel effect early and very mildly, but that is completely gone now.
The screen cover went on without a hitch (I used lots of solution...having done the back first and not quite done it right). I LOVE how it protects the screen (having hated the screen protectors of old on my palm3x I have never used another on another device I've had...and regretted it for my razr, which developed some weird pitted thing on part of the screen.
It requires a bit more pressure to use.
The back and other cover pieces are good for protection but detracts from the beauty of this phone (and I love this phone...never thought it was ugly from day 1). I didn't square the back piece well and have two corners that are not quite right. I was going to reapply, but have decided to live with the body pieces for now and once I tire of them, and the G1 is not so new, remove them. The two corners i did correctly show absolutely no sign of coming off. I should really reapply the back, but the two bad corners aren't bugging me much and I'll probably remove and discard the back IS once they get to be annoying.
Right now I'm not so bothered by the shine as I was, but I would definitely limit to screen only in future.
The amazing accumulation of finger grease seems really cut down by the shield. It doesn't build up as fast and wipes away easily...sometimes just a finger swipe clears it from the screen.
peace!
