Hi

Whilst on holiday a very unfortunate accident occurred and my G1 was dropped from the top of the tower at Seville cathedral.

The G1 fortunately did not land on anybody, but was completely destroyed. However I have recovered the MicroSD card with all my holiday photos and videos on.

Upon plugging the card into my PC I find I cannot read it and Windows keeps asking me if I want to format it.

Does this mean the card is damaged, or is it a formatting problem? Will I just need to wait until I get a new G1 in order to read the card, or is there a way round this?

Thanks in advance.

wow thats a pretty bad accident

it seems like you need to format your card, i dont think you will be able to recover all the data in there since the pc cant see the files

i have used software to recover data off of computer hard drives where windows couldnt read them and wanted to format them. the software i used is at home and i cant think of the name but there is a possibility you will be able to recover the data. Google data recovery software for windows if your intrested in the software i used i will have to check after work.

Its likely all there, Its just something minor like a bit was flipped from a 1 to 0 somewhere indicating the card is not formatted, like regdent said, look for SD/flash card file recovery I can pretty much guarantee you can recover your data

Sorry about the phone, and
Good luck :D

Whatever you do, don't accidentally format it.

If you can't recover the data yourself with program you find, there are forensic disk recovery services that can recover most if not all data from damaged storage. If the data is valuable enough to you, look up a service like that(they are expensive though)

do you have it partitioned for apps to sd? if so windows wont read it.

Thanks for the help and reassurance.

I haven't partitioned it myself, but it may already be partitioned.

I think I shall wait until I get a new G1 and see if that reads it ok, if that fails I shall try to find some software to recover the data.

Try FTK Imager Lite version 2.6.1 Its free. Connect the sdcard to the computer and try and connect to it. If its a FAT32 formatted card you should be able to instantly recover your data.

Thanks for your help.

Using FTK Imager Lite I get unrecognised file system and I can only export 30Mb of unallocated space. I get no file structure or any hint of being able to access files on there unfortunately.

Sadly it looks like the photos etc are destroyed. I will keep the card somewhere safe in-case something comes up.

Cheers anyway.
