Ok, So yesterday I went to Six Flags and my phone got wet, of course. I dried it off immediately and then it went on. It made a phone call that I had to make because I was separated from the rest of the group. Half way through the phone call it shut off. That was that. Ever since then the phone doesn't do anything.

Weird thing though is I can feel it got hot. Like the bottom back by the battery. When the battery is in it and I'm trying to start it up it gets really hot almost like it has been on.

I had a similar problem with my Sidekick LX. For weeks it was doing weird stuff. Some keys wouldn't work, sometimes it wouldn't turn on. Things like that. After letting it sit in my room for about a month though with the battery and memory card and sim card out it came back to life and everything worked as good as new. Is there a chance my G1 could revive itself like my Sidekick did?

Also, the water indication sticker is 3/4 pink. It really sucks. As I took the back cover off I watched the sticker change colors. I was only able to dry it off fast enough to save this little tiny section of the sticker.

Right now the phone is sitting in a bowl of salt.

If anyone else has any suggestions or if they have had similar problems please share it with me. I've been a wreck. I've had this phone for 4 months. I haven't even completely paid it off yet.

Thanks for your time and help!

not salt , it will ruin the phone for sure . salt dissolves in water ! . put it in a bowl of rice immediately . take the battery out . put the battery and phone in the DRY rice separately .

I have no idea why I wrote salt... I put it in rice. I just woke up when I wrote that and must have been a little loopy.

Yea, I'm hoping too. It would just totally suck. I mean, I don't even have the thing payed off yet and I already broke it. =/

i got tmobile to replace a friends samsung phone . it cost 549 when new . he water damaged his phone , but the indicator was still white . tmobile rep told me that if it was found later to be water damage , then he(i) would be charged $100 later . i think the $100 is worth trying to get a replacement . just tell them its not water damage , then IF they later find its water damage ..... hell , its better than buying a phone at full price .

Thats exactly what I did with my sidekick. I wonder about the policy though. Does the thing need to be completely pink or just partially. I'd assume partially just because these cell phone companies love screwing you.

The mistake you made was to switch it on a few hours after you dropped it in water. I had same problem, i dropped mine in the toilet. I immediately removed the battery and put both battery and phone close to the radiator for about 9 hours. And that was it,it worked like brand new

Haha I feel you're pain. I was fishing in a river, got swept by a strong current with my brand new g1 in my pocket. Needless to say, it was ruined haha They should start making these things water resistant or something, b/c current phones are no friend to any fisherman

This doesn't apply to any Android phones, but sprint/nextel has phones that are both water resistant and durable to any condition. Kinda like military equipment that needs to work whenever wherever.

well, you certainly learned your lesson(s)
1. DON'T GET YOUR G1 WET
2. If you do get it wet, don't be stupid and turn it on while it is still possibly moist inside the phone.

JUST go outside, turn your phones screen facing down, open the back and let the sun dry out the batery slot and what not. Back in the day when Nokia was coming out with its first phone my brother had dropped his amazing Nokia phone [amazing because it had the game snake on it] . Well it went like this. "Hey I'm 16! lets go do donuts in my POS truck up at the baseball field" Ok! Then somehow his phone fell out the car and into a rain puddle. About an hour later they found it face down in this puddle.
Took the batery out, let the sun dry it.
Bam. Worked like it always did.

I wish they could make these things waterproof also. I mean it would make sense, it happens to so many people. The day is almost over here and the sun is starting to go in so tomorrow during the day I think I am just gunna leave it out and hope it roasts enough to dry all the insides.

What is the longest its taken for someones broken cell phone to start working? Just so I can have an idea of when I should give up on mine.

help..

i dropped my phone in the toilet..so i picked up right away removed battery, sim card and sd card. i let it dry for 24 hours. i try opening it and it was able to boot up i was able to use it for a couple of minutes.

then it went dead, i try powering it up and it went to recovery mode. I tried to wipe the device by pressing alt + w, it showed that data wiping complete. I tried rebooting it and it goes back to the recovery mode, so i tried pressing alt + s, but then the error message was unable to locate update.zip file, and its stuck on the recovery mode icon.

i went to a service center and they were telling me that they need to replace the mother board and it would cost me 500 dollars.. i told them i'll take my phone back and just buy a new one...

i was hoping i can still get out of the recovery mode...any help please??

You need to put a new update.zip file on your sd . Probably need a new sd also . When you put the update.zip , go into recovery and press alt+s

do you have a card reader for your comp/laptop ? put your sd card in it . download the file , rename it update.zip( just name it update if using widows) , stick that sd card into the phone , go into recovery , press alt+s , reboot , you should be up and running . good luck !

at least you didnt have your phone slip out of your pocket while bending over to puke outside in the rain... and have the phone land in said puke puddle lol

I didnt do the rice thing but I DID leave it off for a whole day until it dried and its been working fine... (its been about 5 months since it happened)

after it was dry I made a lil mix of Monster Screen Cleaner and hand sanitizer and wiped it up to get rid of the funkyness xD
I thought my G1 was done for sure, but it toughed it out perfectly.

I wonder if putting the phone in a bag full of those silica packets would dry it up quicker than rice....
I hope I dont have to test this anytime soon

All,

I had some water issues in a tropical rain-storm. I managed to dry the phone and on first attempt it tried to boot and then switched off, after further drying it booted but with an acore (force close) error. I left it on awhile and then took the batter out and tried again. Nothing ! dead, not a light , no charging light, nothing ....

Any ideas ?

you probably failed to dry and clean it properly. if this hasn't been said enough, powering up your phone with impure water contamination is a very bad idea. conductive elements in the rainwater have likely caused a hardware error.

I dropped my G1 in water on Tuesday. I dried it off as much as I could. It comes on but the screen will not go past G1. The white dot did turn pink inside the phone. T-Mo already sent a new one out b-cuz I have insurance on it. Does any1 have any suggestions on how I can get it working again? I want to get my info off of the old 1 to put on the new 1.
