i was wondering how accurate the voice recognition software is, i noticed it works really well for the voice search function and the direction searching so i was wondering if anyone has tried to incorporate it with texting. i think that would be awesome, even if it only picked up simple words or what not it would still be faster than either typing on screen or opening the phone, then you could "text" and drive...not that i would do it right now or anything...

would this be easier than making a phone call?

Try Voice Text. It works great for me and the Dev is very open to suggestions. If you email him, he will email you right back. Just don't get fustrated at first, keep practicing. Once you get it down, it is awesome, I use it even when I'm not in my car now, plus it comes packaged with SMS Popup

lol ok well you have a point, but alot of times the person i'm texting cannot take a call (i.e. sitting in class or at work)
It's a good idea and I'm sure google will add it to all text-entry in time.

Exactly. Vlingo is the best I've seen in action (friend's Blackberry) but doesn't seem to be available for Android yet.

just got the voice text app and i guess the voice recognition isn't the best (when i said "ok lets go" it came out "ebony hoe" :p) but it's something for a quick response

I'm pretty sure it uses google speak recognition. I actually have extremely good results, even with very complex words. I actually find that it makes mistakes more if you use too few words at a time in your phrase.
I will record an entire message all at once and if any editing needs to be done(usually none) I go back and edit it manually with the keyboard.
I think the problem most people have is they expect it to be perfect right away. well, technically it is, you have to train yourself to speak the way it recognizes

Try DragonVoice if there is a mobile application. Otherwise, do check it out for desktop of laptop applications. It's so accurate and awesome.

Try Speak2Text , it transcribes your voice and sends it as text.

Handcent... All-in-one best text messaging app. When I'm driving and my N1 is in the dock, I'll receive a text message (via popup window) and I just click reply via voice and say it. 90% of the time it's accurate.
