What is MyFaves? I don't have it on my current phone, but unless I'm missing something, it just seems like an over-glorified speed dialer. Why would someone pay more money for it each month?

Because the 5 people you pick do not cost minutes to call. I only ever call 5 people so at the end of the month I usually only use 5 or 6 of my 300 minutes. All the rest are free minutes to My Favs.

I agree. I've never understood this whole deal. I just use speed dial. But, now on my G1, I can 'drag & drop" my favs onto the home screen... even better. :) I guess the benefit of no accumulated minutes is good but I text more than I call and I have unltmd everything.

T-Mobile myFaves gives you unlimited calling to your 5 favorite people.* Any number. Even landlines.

You can call and recieve calls from the 5 people you specify without using any of your minutes. Since I mainly talk to the same people all the time I don't usually use any minutes of my plan. I get away with a 300 minute plan(usually dont' break 50 mins) and still talk to those 5 poeple all I want. It also doesn't matter what type of line the other number is, cell or land line, unlimited minutes if it is in your my fav.

As said above, MyFaves allows 5 numbers to be programmed to that "Rotary Speed Dialer", and calls to/from those numbers don't cost any minutes, ever.

However, if you DO NOT have a MyFaves plan, the app won't even show up on your phone. The MyFaves picker is a remotely engaged Java application...the T-Mobile server has to tell your phone to turn it on.

Interesting. So, why do people think that it will be completely unnecessary for the G1 owners to use myFaves? It seems to me that it would still be useful to some of you. Is the some feature of the G1 that makes the MyFaves feature redundant?

On standard T-Mobile phones, when the MyFaves feature is enabled by adding it to your account (and paying for it), the rotary dialer is the front page on your phone, meaning the first thing you see, easy to dial everyone on your Fave 5.

On the G1, the MyFaves dialer is an extra app that needs to be run from the Home screen, kind of negating how the dialer makes things easy...might as well go into address book to call someone.

The dialer DOES make it easy to remember which numbers won't cost minutes.

I took the dialer off my wing and moved it to a different page in ultimate launcher. It took up way too much space on the screen. I know who my faves are, as they haven't really changed, and I don't really call 2 of them at all.

I was considering dropping MyFaves when I get the G1, but I added up all my minutes the last couple months and I use up way more than 300, and I don't think the free weekends would make up the difference. We'll see, if that continues to be the case.

Also note you can change any or all of your Favs once a month.

punkzanyj - You don't get free nights and weekends on your plan? I do on my MyFavs plan.

I keep the dialer turned off(the little circles), I like to see the pic I have on my home screen. I use speed dial, just easier and doesn't block anything.

I was on a plan for minutes costing me something like $99/mo before all of the surcharges, texting, data etc.. Now I am now myFaves 300 ($39 before charges) and still have extra minutes.. After the $35 data plan I'll still be cheaper than just my talk time was about 8 months ago when I switched.

And you don't have to have the screen up at all, according to some tmob reps you don't even need a faves 5 phone. The discounts are all server side - there is nothing different about the call except a flag on your account for that number.

I know you don't need a Fav 5 phone because it worked on my iPhone. :p

I can confirm that. A T-mobile rep told me the same thing when I bought my Wife's phone (not My-Fav enabled) and calls to her 5 people are not counted against our minutes. It just takes a phone call to T-Mob to change those people, as opposed to an app that does it for you though.

Wow, I wish I could have a plan with only 300 minutes a month! Even with the myfaves plan, we have a 2,000 minute family plan. Ugh, teenagers, especially the girl, talk and talk and talk!!

No, I do get that.

I was looking at a cheaper non-myfavs plan. So I added up all my minutes a month and it's well over 300. The non-myfavs plan I looked at had free weekends (But not nights) and I don't think that would keep me from going over 300 with that non-myfavs plan.

Make sense now?

Ugg.. That does sound harsh - I should note I also leech off of my work line which is an AT&T Blackjack and we have a "family" plan with infinite data, messaging and tethering with whatever their nutso plan is 5k minutes or whatever so.. I can't say I don't use that when I can to avoid hitting my 300 anytimes with tMob

But still. 5Faves is a must for me... Just liek I'm sure a number of people here had verizon 3 or 4 years ago when they had infinite calls AND messaging to any other verizoners.
