When traveling abroad in the US, I'm charged over 20$ pr. mb. Thus, it would be extremely handy to be able to preload certain map regions when having access to cheap WiFi og 3G.

I'm kind of surpriced this hasn't been done yet, perhaps it's not possible to access the Google map cache? Wouldn't other than me find such an option appealing?

I'm playing with their US version now. Its not 100% because their server is brand new, but you can look at the forum and play with Trekbuddy and download your maps so they are pre cached. You will still need edge or something to plan your route then GPS after that.

There needs to be a way to just download like a whole country/state or something to your phone and then you just be able to update it when you want to.

AndNav along with TrekBudy will do it on your PC then you upload them to your phone.
Matter of fact you can use like 10 different map sources.

An app called BigPlanet will also let you download and save the google maps.
