We already knew that working for Google had certain advantages, but, believe me, this giant of the search motor takes the welfare of its employees seriously ... As shown by this decompression (stress) capsule that is impermeable to sound and light ...

Yea, Googlers rock, and the welfare is not even up to the half of it. Their benefits are so comprehensive you dont have to worry about other stuff when you have your work in front of you.
"Google, based in Mountain View, Calif., offers employees $5,000 to purchase and $2,500 to lease fuel-efficient cars — not just hybrids — that get at least 45 miles per gallon." (Source: New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/08/business/08hybrid.html), 2006)

Your are in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike. There is a dusty laptop here with a weak wireless connection. There are dull lifeless gnomes strolling about. What do you do?
A) Wander aimlessly, bumping into obstacles until you are eaten by a gnue.
B) Use the laptop as a digging device to tunnel tto the next level.
C) Play MPoRPG until the battery dies along with your hopes.
D) Use the computer to map the nodes of the maze and discover the exit path.
E) Email your resume to Google. Tell the lead gnome you quit & find yourself in whole different world.

Google have offices all around the world, several location specialize in certain apps so you wouldn't necessarily have to live in CA.

Bank of America offers its employees $3,000 if they decide to purchase hybrid vehicle. BoA is not that big as Google, but I see most of the bigger companies are having this benefit.

Pictures from Google wise: no comment - it's just OMG SO NICE!!! At the same time I admire all those people - you are pretty much looking at very smart people making Google what it is these days. Therefore, they deserve it :)

At their peak that was the case I remember watching a TV special or report on the company.
I looked up the most recent info regarding the company in the slowing economy from the last 2 or 3 years and this is what I found.
Even Google, with 17,000 employees, has lost some of its luster as a top spot for engineers as the potential for big gains in its share price has begun to diminish. The company still receives more than 20,000 résumés a week, or two every minute, according to Sunny Gettinger, a Google spokeswoman. But it is also starting to lose engineers to start-ups and budding Valley stars like Facebook, including engineers like Pedram Keyani.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/04/technology/04talent.html?pagewanted=2&_r=2&sq=Microsoft-Yahoo%20Marriage&st=nyt&scp=1
So they're still a lot, but not as much during their rapid growth days :)

Developers are, and I'm being frank here, stupid. I know because I am one. I noticed that this person posting all this great stuff about google jobs failed to mention SALARY! There's a good reason for that: it sucks! Google and most other corporations that depend on a steady stream of talented developers know that developers are dumb, so they give them cube toys and let them sit on a bouncy ball during office hours. In exchange, the developer will come up with millions of dollars worth of software and ideas for about $10 an hour. Like I said, I know, because I've been there and done that.
Of course, over time, developers get smarter. Once you realize that writing million dollar applications 90 hours a week for a $2400 paycheck is a ripoff, you move on.
If you think break rooms and white boards that you can write your ideas on (which will make someone else rich, not you) are cool, you should see my billing rate. :) Now THATS badass!
