I am starting a Family Plan with T-Mobile, and due to bad credit, I am going to get a Flex Pay 2yr contract(not monthly without a contract). I've been eying the G1 and want to know if I will be able to get the Data Plan that it requires if I have bad credit and have to use Flex Pay.

Also, I've seen deals through walmart and Let's Talk. They say if you start a new 2-yr contract and include a data plan that you get discounts on phones.(The G1 was only $97 using this service). So has anybody tried this? Is there any negative points?

My last few questions deal with 3G and Edge. Does anybody know if there is 3g available in Northeastern Pennsylvania, specifically around Wilkes Barre and Scranton? If not how long is it until it is implemented. Also is the G1 worth it if you only have Edge service? What features will I miss out on? Oh and if I only have Edge is there any way to pay less than if I had 3g? Thanks beforehand, and hopefully most or all of my questions will be answered.

Yes you can use the G1 on flex.. just buy the phone and go into the store and get a sim card.

I'm not sure about your part of Pennsylvania, but in Philly we have 3G

I'd make sure that your idea of Wal*Mart's pricing is accurate.

From their "terms and conditions (http://walmart.letstalk.com/popups/promo_popup.htm?promoId=58007_58002)" page:

Purchase select T-Mobile phones online or through our customer service department and receive a $135.00 instant discount when you activate new T-Mobile service on a plan of $99.99 per month or higher and in conjunction with any feature or bundle or any other plan option at least $24.99 per month or greater. This exclusive offer is limited to select online retailers and is not available in any stores. Certain rate plans may not apply. This promotion applies only to individual plans or line 1 of a family plan and requires a (2) two-year service agreement.

~$125/mo via Wal*Mart -vs- ~$55/mo for the lowest priced plan at Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-G1-Phone-Google-Black/dp/B001JT1U1E), where the G1 is also $97. I believe Amazon/TMobile would run your credit, however.

Now would probably be a good time to get your free credit report (NOT at freecreditreport.com, but at the government-sponsored AnnualCreditReport.com (http://annualcreditreport.com)) and see if you can fix whatever is wrong on it. I'd suggest sending a flurry of dispute letters to the credit reporting agencies using every dispute option available (eg first say it's not yours, then say the date is inaccurate, etc etc).
