found out that its a deffinate that the phone will NOT be sold in non 3g areas, (at least near me) and also found out that the second wave of pre-orders wont even receive there phone till the first or second week of November, which leads me to believe that people that want to start a new contract and are NOT t-mobile customers already will have to wait till near the end of november to get their phone

this is only what i was told by the T mobile guy in the store

when you say second wave, do you mean the ones that T-mobile helps you order in a non-3g store or did another one start after the first couple thousand ran out?

I think it was announced before that only 3G covered areas will be selling the phone... one of the reasons (a minor one) why I pre-ordered mine.

My advice, just wait until black friday and hopefully u can get a deal... maybe, just maybe. I am positive by then the phones must have hit Best Buy and other retailers.

the way that the guy was explaining it was that they took all the pre-orders but tehy cant all sh** out the same time, so even though it was one "wave" of pre-orders they broke it up i guess and the first amount of ppl will get theres SHIPPED on oct 22 and the others will get theres SHIPPED sometime in november

once again, jsut going from what im told, im sure everyone understands that not ALL t-mobile employees reliable

oh dont worry, i know the routine lol, and i wanted it to come from the same guy since he knew about this in the first place and is actually in a physical store, rather than on the CS side of things...

also:

Do I have to be in a 3G coverage area to buy this device?

No, however device functions requiring access to data services, such as Internet browsing, will be considerably faster in 3G coverage areas.

but thats part of the PRE-SALE FAQ, what about after its released...DAMN YOU T-MOBILE! lol

Not right away, they may eventually but on the 22nd when they are released you can goto a t-mobile store and a rep will help you buy one online. So you might as well preorder. but i hear there is a "second wave" in the preorders and anythign ordered after today (Oct3rd) will be shipped sometime in november so that kinda sucks.

alright i just called CS once, got an incompetent REP and hung up..called back and got a smarter person and they double, triple checked it with managers etc and I QUOTE!

"The selling of the G1 does not correlate with the surrounding 3G markets." "Supplies are limited though and all stores might not have them on the 22nd but a few days after the 22nd." and so forth...so there u have it, no worries about if ur not in 3G areas...

im confident that my area (richest county in the USA and county next to us is 2nd) will have a handful on the 22nd for purchase in store...fast growing area=t-mobile will want to ship their units here because they are MORE LIKELY TO fly off the shelf..plus 3G will be in Washington D.C. very soon after...when the shipment comes to my local store i will be sure to post the day it comes in..i have a friend that works at the t-mobile store at the mall so yeh..hope that helps!

EDIT:

she also explained that....On the tmobile website they have the 3G areas that will be supporting the G1 on October 22nd, people (even reps in store) can/will/have gotten confused that, "that" listing on the website has become the chart for where the G1 will be sold. So with that mentioned and reading what I posted above again, it should be clear that ON OCTOBER 22nd or a few days afterwards (depending on where u live IMO) YOUR STORE WILL HAVE A HANDFUL OF G1's for sale.

How credible is this "guy"?

Trust me, in this age of instant access to info and global shipping networks. Tmo will be able to ship whatever the pre-order's qty is as quickly as possible. They will prolly pre-stage phones in large cities and ship out from there, not all from one place.

i mean think about it, its not in t-mobiles best interest to sell in like less than 30 cities on launch day...bad press..bad monetary flow..etc COMMON SENSE I TELL YOU!

I wouldn't put too much into what a T-Mobile employee says. I talked to one just a few days ago and he told me they would have over 80 at their store on the 22nd, and would be getting more in the week after.
Best thing to do for now is wait for the word from T-Mobile.

Im in northern VA also. I have spoken with a friend that works at tmobile also i have had a few words with corp reps. If your phone was ordered during the first week the G1 was put out you will recieve your phone on the 22nd. If you have ordered the phone the following week the phone shall be delievered on Nov2. If you have put a hold in store, to bad so sad the time of the hold is up to the tmobile location.
