Hi I have a quick question, I want to know if the wifi(hotspot) is part of the $35 plan? I'm asking because I pay $10 a month for the hotspot on my Blackberry.

i'm almost positive that both of the unlimited data plans include hotspot connections -- can anyone confirm with a link?

Both $25 and $35 plans have T-Mobile Hotspot data access.

Yes, it's unlimited data, hotspot, and unlimited Google Talk/IM. The IM for AIM, Yahoo and other non-google progs end up using text-messaging data stream or some such, so if you're on the 400 text message plan (the $25 plan) you will have to be careful with your non-google IMs.

are we sure about that? everything i have read has said "seamlessly connect to any open wifi network" i havent read anything that has said unlimited hotspot access, even when i ordered the phone and data plan...

The day after i ordered my phone i called T-Mo to ask about the Data plan (I have the $35 one) and I was told by the CSR that the Data Plan did include unlimited Hot-Spot access.

Wi-fi access is free with any wi-fi enabled device (i.e., iTouch). No service is even necessary.
Making calls over a wi-fi network (VoIP, T-Mobile's UMA) is currently not possible on the new G1 phones regardless of what service plan you have - HTC or T-mobile simply missed it. This is one of my biggest gripes. Not sure if it will ever be available.

well its not a hardware issue, all they would have to do is update the software for UMA

how can they charge you extra for using your own internet connection? Sorry if this is a dumb question but i've never heard of this. If the device can connect to wi-fi, and you're not using the cell carriers signal for data anymore, you're using your ISP so how could they charge you?

Gtalk is not included in the 400 messages? Is that confirmed? I hope so because I went with the $25 plan and was worried, but most of the people i talk to are on Gtalk

I think they are talking about T-Mobile Hotspots at coffee shops, airports, etc. These hotspots usually charge for access per hour or per day but are typically free for customers with T-Mobile data plans as they would be freeing up the cellular frequencies (which are limited) and putting the load on a wired connection which is more desirable for T-Mobile.

I thought we were talking about T-mobile hotspots which are located around the country........not open networks. of course you cant be charged for an open network.

I would be interested to know if we get free WIFI @ TMO Hot Spots too. Does anybody have any for sure answer on this?

gTalk doesn't utilize SMS, so it's not even remotely attached to your "400 messages"
via tmobile's g1 faq:
"With the $25 data plan, why don’t the Google Talk IMs count toward the included messages?AIM® and Yahoo! Messenger use a text messaging protocol to send messages. Google Talk actually uses an XMPP protocol, which is billed as Internet access."

I really hope this wifi calling would work, since that's how I use my blackberry. I only have 600 minutes but I hardly use 200 minutes since I make free calls through wifi all the time without paying for hotspot. and when I go to starbucks or something have hotspot, I don't have to pay per hour or anything, it automatically connect my blackberry to hotspot and again, I make free phone calls.
I really want that on G1

Me too....I've got two T-Mo @Home routers using two lines each, and two of us using HotSpot via UMA for a lot of the calls we make during the day.
That was one of the reasons I didn't get an iPhone....I was really hoping T-Mo would make this happen for the G1.

it doesn't appear that they have included the @home/hotspot calling feature on the G1...
through wifi, a seperate third party application is still available to make VOIP calls but i believe you'll have to subscribe with a different online carrier in order to do this...
if you take a look at the G1 online, you'll notice that the @home feature is noticeably missing from the feature list of the G1

his original question was referring to hotspot calling, not internet access... the question that you quoted was referring to WIFI internet access...
so to put it simply, UMA calling is not enabled by default to work with @home service from t-mobile, so no you cannot use the unlimited calling feature from t-mobile via wifi or utilize UMA through t-mobile (unlicensed mobile access)...
wifi is on the other hand open and free

That's what ticks me off about the lingo today... 5 years ago, "hotspot" meant honest-to-God 802.11a, b, or g WiFi and now T-mo (and maybe others?) is going and making something else that apparently isn't 802.11 (can someone confirm or deny?) and calling it a "hotspot" when that term is basically already "taken"... unless I'm not so schooled in802.11 as I thought and come to find out there is a method of your phone sending a signal through it to automatically migrate an active call to and from 802.11/3G/GSM seamlessly AND keep track of who you are through the process....
Wow... typing on my wife's sidekick here taught me two things: biting my thumbnails to the nubs last night was a MISTAKE and I really do type too much :P

Add "grow thumbnails longer" to the list of things that you need to do before the 22nd!
