No, it's not true. Their policy clearly states any voice plan $29.99 and up.
Link to their FAQ:

A qualified rate plan is $29.99 or greater with a single line, or $49.99 or greater on a shared family plan

I will speak from my own experience. My Faves application will be included on G1 as we have seen it from numerous video clips. My Faves plan is not required to be an owner of the G1. I have currently Family plan and 2 lines on it. One thing it was requirement was data plan and that was it.

Huh? If it did, they wouldn't let me order it without forcing me to add that myfaves plan too. I'm sure it's not necessary.

Yes, it will be useless, but how is this different from any other myfaves phone they offer? My phone is a myfaves phone, but I don't have that plan, thus the myfaves interface is off. (Wouldn't use it even if I did have one of those plans).

You can look at MyFaves as optional app that can be turned off. I am not sure if I can evven call it an app. I am sure the resources wil not be taken as MyFaves is turned off.
PS DesignDawg - I am still voting for your sig :)

How nice of you. ;)
MyFaves, when it gets down to it, is just a gimmicky speed dial interface. You still have to manually set them on your phone AND on your account separately. You can put 5 people on your interface on your phone that are NOT in your plan, and you will be charged for the minutes. Rest assured, MyFaves or not doesn't matter on the phone.

agreed, coming from a very heavy windows mobile user, you want to turn of any and all bloatware (software put on by the mobile carrier) on your phone to maximize battery life and power...
personally? once a final version of the OS is released directly from the android team i will download that and put in all the t-mobile server settings myself to maximize my phones memory capacity and optimize my memory and battery life

MyFaves (on all currently released phones) is a Java-based application that is remotely activated. This means that the interface only shows up if the T-Mobile server tells your phone that MyFaves is enabled. If your account doesn't have MyFaves, the interface is not enabled...there's nothing to turn off.

Brady, Brady, Brady...
You are one smart cookie. :)
P.S. In elementary school, there was a kid named Brady on my bus. I hated him.
But I like you.

Here's the deal. If, you don't have a myfaves plan you will not have to worry about having this application on your phone at all. Myfaves is not a requirement for having the G1 the only requirement is the G1 data plan
