Hey all-
Just wanted to share a bit of information I received this afternoon following a visit to my local T-Mobile Store. In regards to the Data/Text plans, apparently T-Mobile will not let you share your "Family Plan" Unlimited text msgs with the G1. You MUST purchase either the $25 plan (Unlimited Data with > 400 text msg per month) or $35 plan (Unlimited Data & Text). In addition, they will not offer a 'Data Only' plan for $20 with this device. Of course, this is just from two T-Mobile employees near Seattle so I can't confirm that it's absolute truth - but it's what I was told an hour ago. So, just wanted to keep you all informed- this is your fair warning. Maybe we can all band together and revolt! Are you with me, everyone!!! ;) Thoughts??

whats the point of having unlimited texts shared, when you cant SHARE THEM! BS

Do they TXT for family? When i added a line and switched over to a family plan they said i would have to buy seperate TXT plans anyway. Which is good, cause i get the unlimited and my girl gets the 400 and never comes close to it.
But from what your saying it sounds about right, even with the family plan you can get the 400 or unlimited TXT right and just like the blackberry, sidekick or Wing you would need the Total Internet. So it works out to be the same if it was a regular line of a family line no?

Well, in my situation, I have 3 other phones on my famly plan, so they can share the "family" unlimited texts ...but our G1's will be on their own. I do not agree with this arrangement and I'm sure customers will be outraged, as well.

Yeah i could see where that would suck, Its going to add atleast $25 a month to your bill! hmm this doesn't seem right...maybe once you get the phone you can cancel the G1 package get the total internet package and keep the family text plan.

Not in my case. I will end up paying more per month... $15 more. Currently, with my Dash, I use my Unlimited Texts on our Family Plan and I have an additional Data Plan for $20/month. With my G1, I'll be paying $35/ per month for the indentical service. That's not right in my book.

Apparently, you can not get Data Only pkg with the G1. These are the only two plans that will be offered. Period.:(

I just called Customer Care and she informed me that with the $25 plan i would still have unlimited texts since i have the family share text plan. I asked her if she was sure and she told me she has gotten a dozen calls about this today alone and she is positive........so now i am confused

Always take anything reported here with a grain of salt unless it has been verified by Google or T-Mobile directly and not through hearsay from other employees of stores.
Remember "heyitsnan" did say in her first post "I can't confirm that it's absolute truth"

So It's $35 For 1 Of the 2 lines on your plan. but they dont make you pay for both with texting/internet if the 2nd line isnt a g1 right?

I think they will have a tough time TAKING AWAY text messages they you have on your phone plan when you ADD a data plan. I have unlimited voice calling and text messages on my phone plan and am adding the $25 G1 plan. By my math, unlimited + 400 = unlimited, so I will expect them to NEVER charge me extra for any text messages. (Not that I would ever exceed 400 messages in one month anyway!)

I have 4 phones on my plan with family unlimited texting. I spoke with a t-mobile rep. She explained to me the data plans. I told her ok so i can get the 400 text and unlimited data for 25$ and use my family plan text messaging to cover the anything over 400 messages. She said yes. I will raise complete hell if i cant do this. I am already paying more a month to use this phone vs my current blackberry. I dont mind paying 5 extra a month but 15 a month is pushing it. I already have a 230 dollar a month phone bill.

Maybe you misunderstood. I have seen a post on Tmonews before and they say you can use both. First it will start off using your 400 messages for the G1 plan and when you used that up, the rest of the messages will go towards your unlimited texting. There are actual tmobile employees in the Tmonews forums so I tend to trust what they say.
Before anyone gets pissed off either go over and read the posts at tmonews on this topic or call a CSR.

I have talked with the t-mobile store here as well as the reps ont he phone at least 5 times and every time told the same thing the unlimited Text for 19.99 covers every one on the family plan.
So 25 dollors - with unlimited texty family plan = Good to go
so i dono what you heard but i know what i heard i think the only real way to will be to see on my first months bill

This is not what I was told before I purchased the phone and even after. I have called them 3 times and they have assured me the "Family Plan" Unlimited text msgs would override the $25 400 messages.
They told me to get the $25 plan since I already paid the "Family Plan" Unlimited text msgs

No...Is stood in the store and an employee called - I waited and had her ask these specific questions... it was very clear.. no misunderstanding. Well, I guess we'll all just wait and see what happens. I sure HOPE this supervisor gave the employee and I the WRONG info as I want to save $15 a month.

DUDE! if you have unlimited text messaging for your whole family, all you have to do is get the unlimited internet plan for $25.00 and you are fine. You do not have to pay anything else "extra" but the $25.00(each line) for your 3g service. The only thing you get "extra", is the 400 texts that you don't need because you already have unlimited messaging. Your unlimited texting plan applies to all your lines and you will not be docked.

Yeah, I know...I've heard from everyone :o but T-Mobile tells me different. I just NOW called 611 and they told me nope... again! I'm obviously talking to TMO reps that are not "educated" on the G1 plans they offer ... they ALL tell me nope. I give up... I believe everyone here NOW...all my new friends!:) forget TMO reps...:( Thank you everyone for making me feel better - well ,sorta.

I called T-Mob before I ordered my phone to make sure it will not mess up my family unlimited txt msg plan. They told me straight up it wont and I can get the $25 plan and im covered for the txt msgs. Adding another $25 to my billl was more than I wanted to. If that changes for some reason Ima call back T-Mob and raise hell with them because I made sure and talked with them before i put my order in.

I have the unlimited text messaging family plan. When I ordered my phone, I signed up for the $35.00 plan without even thinking about it. Today, I called them and the rep I spoke with said she would downgrade me to the $25.00 plan because my texting was covered in the family plan.

I was told the same exact thing. In fact the customer service rep advised me to only get the $25 one, since my current plan already included unlimited texting. I other words I'm basically paying for the data portion of my overall G1 plan.

Sorry OP, but the reps lied to you. I called 611 a total of 4 times the past 3 days, and made sure i could share the text plan with my family plan and the G1. Basically i got the $25 plan (unlimited data and 400 text), and i made sure saying since my family plan has unlimited text (one payment of $9.99 for all 3 lines) that i would be able to pass 400 txt and not get charged. I even made them take a note of it. If i pass 400 txt for the month, it then goes to my family plan's unlimited text.
cliff notes:
only paying $25 a month and still able to use unlimited text under family plan.

Yep, I called too before ordering my phone and was told to get the $25 plan. I have the old grandfathered $9.99 unlim txt on my 3 lines. They explained it using the sidekick as an example and the same thing happens now with sidekicks on data plans that family plans with unlimited text the text package still supercededs the sidekick plan. I don't really remember any sidekick plans that didn't include unlimited text though, that was a long time ago.

The thing that really gets me about this tmobile plan BS is the pricing... I think people are looking past the basics of it which is the crazy ass costs... I have 3 lines with no data right now for like $92 then say 2 of my lines want to go G1 like I was thinking for an extra $70 for either the unlimited messaging family plan or the full data plan with unlimited messages :( I understand that if I had a crap load more lines the unlimited family would be more cost effective but still... why should your cellphone cost as much or more than a car payment? For the price of a car paymnet you get to read digg on the crapper? I need more value or lower prices before I can jump on that.. which is sad since the g1 looks pretty nifty... I know im not the only one thinking this either.
Now I can just wait for the hail of people saying stop being a poor bastard and just dish out the cash... but isnt that what got us into trouble in the first place with the money woes in the states? Everyone has a case of the gimmies and trying to live beyond their means then spending days just tossing cash at people/companies :)
For the record... please feel free to throw some cash at me i wont mind :)

A tmobile dealer told me that we can use the $20 data plan with the G1. They were told that since we have no 3G network in Utah we are allowed to do that and stay on EDGE. But when I called 611 they told me NO. They said I can only use either the $25 or $35 for the G1 regardless of where I am.
so what's the deal here?? *tears*
As for the unlimited text, several calls to 611 did not make it clear. I keep getting different responses.
