for many years i've had a sidekick just wit the data plan and i have a spare flip fone to talk on cuz das just my preference......
at the conference they said that the G1 fone will require a voice plan.....
but when i spoke with a customer care rep they said its subject to change because alot of ppl want to use it just for data services only! like me!
has anyone heard any extra info pertaining to this?

No answers, just another question: Do we think this phone will work on wi-fi when we're totally out of range of all the T-mobile networks, old and new? A concern for this part of the country, where T-mobile is spotty.
And one more: Will GPS function when we're out of range on backroads, or -- will that require somebody to write an app?

WiFi doesn't have anything to do with the T-Mo network. For WiFi to work, you need to be within range of a WiFi Network that is either unsecured, or one you have a passkey for.
GPS runs off satellites, but I think this is AGPS (assisted GPS) so I'm pretty sure it needs a few towers nearby to help triangulate your position.

The sidekick data plan was overpriced. You will use the data more now than you ever use to.

I agree, for just GSM/EDGE (some areas) it was OVERPRICED.
Now we have 3G connections, that's gonna be so worth the 35$ :)

BTW, if you dont want a Voice Plan with a sidekick, Its $35 For the unlimited text and Data. But If you Have A Voice Plan, Its only 20 Added on to your bill

You'll see once you get the G1, what we've missed out if we got 3G on the SK :)
