View Full Version : Yahoo mail keeps saying I have unread messages... I think.

I've had my G1 for a couple weeks now, and I absolutely adore this phone! I was a long time Sidekick user, though most recently I had been using an iPhone. (Cannot begin to explain how thrilled I am to be rid of that thing, even though I still love my MacBook!) This phone seriously takes the best of those two phones and rolls it all into one great package :D

The only little "thing" that I have noticed with my G1 has to do with my Yahoo mail. In the Email application on the Accounts screen both my Yahoo account and another email account I use are listed. Next to the title of my Yahoo account is the number 11 in a small box, which I'm sure is meant to indicate how many unread messages I have in that account (unless I'm wrong about that?). Occasionally this number has gone up and down as new emails come in and I read them, but it mostly returns to 11. It was 17 for a little while, 2 for about a day, but generally goes back to 11.

The problem I have, if you can even call it a problem, is that there are no more unread messages ANYWHERE in my Yahoo account. I really can't figure out why, why, why it keeps showing the number 11 there. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the Yahoo account. Before reinstalling I went throughout my entire Yahoo account (from my computer) and made sure that there were no other messages I had left unread in any of my folders, too.

Is there some way to fix this? Is anyone else having this issue? I know that I'm getting a little OCD about it, but if there are no unread messages, I don't see why it can't reflect that accurately. Someone suggested that I take it to a TMo store, but I really doubt they would be of much help with this... My local store barely managed to figure out whether or not they had car chargers in stock.

Thanks for any help/advice :)

That's my biggest gripe with the G1, I hope they fix this and give us push email on other accounts.

it happens to me too, but it usually defaults to 7 unread in the little box. I was just happy that i have access to my free Yahoo account on my phone via push access. To get them forwarded/filtered using any other means is only available through paying for Yahoo Mail Plus. So I've learned to deal with the incorrect unread messages.

Yeah, I think this and the problem that a lot of people are reporting with Email not notifying them of new Yahoo mail are closely related. I also think it has more to do with Yahoo than the G1. I know on my iPhone and my friend's iPhone as well, Yahoo mailboxes had to be manually checked, even when an "Automatically Check Every X Minutes" setting was established.

I have the same problem but a few others as well

1. Cannot delete messages from trash---I hit delete and it looks like they are gone but when I go back to my trash they reappear
2. Not sending messages on replys----I see them go into the outbox but they never send
3. Not getting notifications all the time----seems I have to wake the phone up and then sometimes only sometimes do I get a notification

Does anybody else have any of these issues? It is really depressing.

Nobody else has the same issues?

I had the same "problem". My phone was saying I had 8 unread yahoo messages when there were none. Previously it was showing 7.

It seemed to have something to do with the number of folders I had in Yahoo. I made the connection when I remembered that I had recently added a new folder to my Yahoo email account. Then I counted the number of folders I had that could receive email including the inbox but minus trash and bulk. Guess what ... It was 8.

Google email is lame in that it does not allow folders and lumps dissociated email together. I find it impossible to use properly. And, sadly, the G1 is a Google phone.

So I removed one folder. Nothing happened.

So, I removed the yahoo account. Then I cleared the cache and history of my browser ... all really easy to do on the G1. Then I removed the battery of my phone to remove any lingering threads in memory and went to bed.

When I awoke in the morning, I replaced the battery and powered-up my phone, and my email is now fixed. I hope it stays that way.

I also hope this helps you.
