A Fitbit app update added support for the Moto X, Nexus 5 and several other devices back in December. And looking more recently, another round of device support has arrived with this latest Fitbit app update. Included this time around is the other Motorola device, the Moto G, as well as several variants of the Sony Xperia Z.

The Sony models include the Xperia Z, Z1, Z1S, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, and Tablet Z. Basically, this means current Fitbit users with any of those devices will be able to stop syncing with their computer, and start syncing directly with their smartphone. Or in the case of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, with their tablet.

Users moving from syncing through a computer to mobile device will have a few options to consider. Take note here, these options deal with battery life. Or possibly more accurate, the lack thereof. Updating, or installing the app for the first time will bring a pop-up letting you know that background sync is off. As someone that regularly uses a Fitbit with a Moto X, trust me when I say that is a good thing.

Aside from clicking ok to get rid of that message, you’ll then need to login using your existing Fitbit credentials. Once logged in you will see your dashboard with the daily details. Swiping to the left or right will cycle you through days. Otherwise, venturing into the “Devices” section (from the menu) will allow you to configure your device.

Once setup, you can then tap the device name and you’ll see the battery level, the last time it performed a sync, and also the option to enable background sync. While I would encourage you to try that, you will want to keep an eye on your battery. Assuming you keep background sync turned off, the Fitbit will sync automatically when you open the Fitbit app on your device.

Fitbit users with one of these newly compatible phones can find the app in the Google Play Store.
