Samsung delighted a lot of people with the launch of the Galaxy J1 earlier this year. It’s a new model that targeted the lower mid-range to budget smartphone category. With decent specs, the phone delivers mobile performance good enough. First launched way back in January, it seems the phone will have a 2016 version if we are to believe a post by Sleaknow on Twitter.

Posted above is snapshot of a new Galaxy J1. It doesn’t look any different from the past Galaxy phones but it will remind you of the Galaxy J5 and the Galaxy J7. There’s a ‘J16’ reference on the image which tells us this is the 2016 version.

Some leaked information also tell us that the upcoming Galaxy J1 (model SM-J120F, 2016) will come with a 4.5-inch WVGA screen, 480 x 800 pixel resolution, Exynos 3457 processor, quad-core CPU, Mali-T720 GPU, 8GB built-in storage, 1GB RAM, 5MP main camera, 2MP front-facing cam, two SIM card slots, and a microSD card slot for memory expansion. Still no word on what battery can be found inside. Phone is powered by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.

The first Galaxy J1 was introduced end of January this 2015 with an early image leaked mid month. This post on Twitter is somewhat earlier too so maybe Samsung is set to announce the phone earlier next month or it could be a CES 2016 unveiling. Let’s just wait for this one to drop by TENAA or FCC. By then, we’ll know the device is ready.
