The first generation Yotaphone was significantly different from its competitors in the market because it had two screens; one as a regular color display, the other as a more eye-friendly E Ink Screen for when you want to use the device as an ebook reader. The Yotaphone 2, unveiled during the recently concluded CES 2014, gives us a few more tidbits about itself through some documents uploaded on the FCC Website.

The user manual and internal photos can be seen on the website, and it gives us more information about the upcoming phone. There’s nothing really groundbreaking here though, as it just shows what you would find in other smartphones, the main difference being that there is another screen on the other side. The main improvement that Yotaphone 2 is bringing is that you can also now use the E Ink Screen not just for reading but also for other things like making calls, browsing the web, playing games, etc. but of course you cannot expect the same screen resolution as the colored one.

Yotaphone 2 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with a 5 inch color screen and a 1920 x 1080 AMOLED display for the main one, while the E Ink Screen has a 4.7 inch screen and a 960 x 540 pixel display. The secondary screen will only use power when you refresh the content on the screen. Otherwise, it will show the last image loaded even if the battery is already completely dead. It has 2GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, an 8MP main camera and a 2.1MP front facing camera.

According to the user manual, the secondary or always-on screen will work with personalized widgets from the YotaHub app, as well as other Android apps. There are no details yet on pricing and availability for Yotaphone 2, but it’s something to consider if you’re looking for a new smartphone that can also double as an ebook reader.
