Not all games are meant to have specific goals or can be used to be competitive by gathering points or you play to avoid certain death from monsters or enemies. Some are just created to be played and enjoyed, not matter how strange they are. This seems to be what Barmark is about, a point and click exploration game with “no goals, no points, and no death”. And with the pressure off, you are free to just explore the world and enjoy what it offers.

The basic idea behind Barmark is for the main character to just walk through a landscape, altering the environment by the choices you make, and just generally growing your own digital zen garden. It has five landscapes that can be randomly chosen, although there are 8 possible backgrounds all in all. You will also be given a randomly selected pair of Archanimals to inhabit your world. You get to interact with these Archanimals as well as they ask you to open various hidden machines that will alter the landscape of the game.

It is a bit strange to play a “game” that actually has no point, except to just simply explore a weird but beautiful world. You can even plant flowers, unlock machines, get bonus features, all with the goal of perfecting your very own digital zen garden.

An app as unique as this will probably cost you a little more than the other more ordinary games. You can download Barmark for $2.99, all-in with no in-app purchases, from the Google Play Store.
