Everything Everywhere held its highly-anticipated 4G event in London today, and we were right there to take it all in. Perhaps one of the biggest announcements of the event was that Everything Everywhere has been re-branded as EE before launching 4G LTE service in the UK. As an added bonus, EE will also be offering fiber service, another first for the company – a team up between carriers Orange and T-Mobile UK.

After that initial announcement about Everything Everywhere’s re-branding, it was time to get down to the nitty-gritty and talk about EE’s actual 4G LTE service. The company started rolling out its LTE service today, introducing it in four cities in the UK with plans to expand that initial offering to 16 cities by the end of the year. By the end of 2013, 70% of the UK will be covered by EE’s 4G service, and by the end of 2014, that number will rise to 98%.

Some of the first phones that will support EE’s 4G LTE include the Samsung Galaxy S III, the Huawei Ascend P1, and the HTC One XL. EE also said that Huawei will be supply the E392 4G LTE USB modem and a mobile hotspot. After those reveals, it was time to perform a speed test on EE’s new 4G LTE network – needless to say, with the network free of other traffic, the speeds we got were quite impressive.

Finally, EE closed its presentation by revealing that it will be the exclusive carrier of the Nokia Lumia 920 in the UK. This means that if the Lumia 920 has caught your eye and you’re living in the UK, you’ll have to go through EE to pick one up. It was a pretty exciting day in London, and be sure to keep an ear to Android Community, where we’ll have more details on EE’s 4G LTE roll out in the coming days and weeks!
