We’re not sure how good of an idea it is to give your child a tablet, but we do know that if you’re going to do so, it probably shouldn’t be one of those fragile, expensive tablets aimed at adults. If you find yourself with a child who loves playing around with tablets but don’t want to give them a slate that isn’t anywhere near childproof, Ematic has a new device for you. Today the company launched the new Funtab Pro tablet, teaming up with Zoodles.com to offer Zoodles Kids Mode on the 7-incher.

First, let’s get the technical specifications out of the way. The tablet is running on a modified version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and comes packing a 1GHz processor working with 1GB of RAM. There’s 8GB of internal storage to take advantage of, but that can be expanded up to 32GB with microSD cards. That 7-inch screen we mentioned earlier is running at 800×480 resolution and boasts multi-touch capabilities. The Funtab Pro also comes with Wi-Fi built-in and a battery that’s quoted for up to 8 hours of use.

Parents can hop on Zoodles.com to control everything their child does with the Funtab Pro, whether they want to block or preview content, or keep track of their child’s educational process. There are a number of pre-loaded apps on the Funtab Pro, including Interactive Story Books, which allows parents and grandparents to record themselves reading books to the child using either the Funtab’s built-in camera or Zoodle.com. There’s also a kid-friendly browser installed on the Funtab Pro, so you don’t need to worry about your child visiting any questionable websites while using the tablet.

The Funtab Pro costs $149.99 at Walmart.com, though at the time of this writing, it wasn’t up on the website yet. It should be soon, however, so if you need a good tablet for your child and you need to get it on the cheap, it shouldn’t be long before the Funtab Pro is up for sale.
