It’s been quite a while since we’ve last heard from them but it seems that E FUN isn’t bowing out of the tablet race yet. The California-based consumer electronics company is said to be preparing another duo of mid-ranged Android tablets for the price conscious buyer.

E FUN might not be a familiar brand as it is just one of the many companies who try to give buyers a way to own relatively decent Android tablets without feeling the need to rob a bank. The last tablets from the company, the 7- and 8-inch Nextbooks, were launched June last year with rather low specs and matching low prices. E FUN hasn’t change its formula but now its wading into quad-core territory with its new line of Nextbook tablets.

Don’t hold your breath for topnotch hardware. The tablets run on 1.6 GHz quad-core Cortex A9 processors with 1 GB of RAM. Internal storage depends on the model, but both can be expanded with microSD cards. The Nextbook 8 sports a 7.85-inch screen with a 1024×768 pixel resolution. Although larger, the 10.1-inch display of the Nextbook 10 only has a resoluton of 1024×600 pixels. Don’t go looking for KitKat either as the tablets only run Android 4.2 but comes preloaded with some apps such as Barnes & Noble Nook, Flixter, VUDU, and Springpad.

Those on a tight budget might want to take a second look at these devices. The E FUN Nextbook 8 with 8 GB of storage has a price tag of $129.99 while the Nextbook 10, with 16 GB of memory, is tagged at $149.99. Both tablets are expected to be on display at CES 2014 this coming week, probably along with a rumored 7-inch Nextbook 7 that will have a rather tempting $99 price tag.
