We have to accept the fact that the selfie trend is not going away anytime soon. And you have to admit, every once in a while, you do enjoy snapping a picture of yourself or with your group of friends. Now the trick is to find ways to make it easier and less annoying for yourself and for others. A new photo-taking app called Snapi wants to help you take selfies without the aid of those annoying monopods (okay fine, selfie sticks) or without breaking your arm trying to press the shutter button.

Using the Snapi app, you can take photos without having to touch your smartphone, thanks to the touch-free gesture technology engine from a company called eyeSight. Once you open the app, you raise your open palm to let it know you’re ready, close your fist and open it again to start the capture countdown, and voila, you’ve got yourself a selfie (or a regular photo if you wish). It works up to 13 feet or 4 meters away, so you can place your smartphone on a safe, stable place, and position people in front of it for the perfect group shot.

You can also configure how many seconds will pass between your gesture and the actual capture, so no need to trip all over yourself just to be in position. It also has autofocus based on your smartphone’s face recognition (if it has one). You get sound feedback as well to help you focus, do the countdown and finally capture your photo. All the pictures will be then stored on your smartphone’s native photo gallery.

The best thing about Snapi? Well, aside from the fact that you can get rid of that embarrassing selfie stick (yes, monopod!), the app is absolutely free from Google Play Store. So enjoy your touch-free selfies from now on. Thanks Payal for the tip!
